I'd consider a 997, in particular one of the GT3 variants (or even the turbo), before a 991 for a car that is used on such a limited basis.
Leading evidence: 'Use on such a limited basis' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Replace from tt' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. Suggestion · Original poster
Just wondering if I will be very disappointed with the change from TT to a base 911.

Suggestion
Stick with the TT for a couple more years, and with the $'s saved you could step up to a used 991 turbo/S if you're dead set on modernizing!

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I am about to pull the trigger on a 991 Cabriolet (C2) with out 8,000 miles. I currently have a 2004 996 TT Cabrio (with 28K miles) that I will sell or trade. Just wondering if I will be very disappointed with the change from TT to a base 911. I only drive about 4,000 miles a year and store the car during the Michgan winters. Your thoughts?
Keep the turbo or if you must have the new interior and warranty get a 981 Boxster S with Sport Suspension. It has the same 3.4L DFI as the C2; is much lighter; handles much better; has a real 6sp manual vs the fake 7sp in the 991; looks much better (roadster) than the C2 cabrio; and is much cheaper.
I think you should just drive the 991 and see how YOU feel about it. From a purely visual standpoint id pick the 991, thats about where it ends for me though; and I dont know if I'd actually go through with it.
Gotta factor in the cost of 'upgrading' to a newer car and see if its worth it to you. Personally, I'd suggest sprucing up your own car and relighting that fire you once had with it to see if the thought of trading out of it is still there.
Stick with the TT for a couple more years, and with the $'s saved you could step up to a used 991 turbo/S if you're dead set on modernizing! Let someone else take the initial depreciation hit. I personally would miss that rush of a blown 911. BTW, some so called "experts" think the 996 Turbos are undervalued currently and the market might head in your favor in the next few years.
I would drive the 991 so that you'll have a good point of comparison. I have driven both and would not part with my TT. I think the 991 is a great Porsche but I really like the TT a lot more. It's purely a matter of preference. Maybe in a year or two I'll drive a 991 Turbo and see how I like it.
If cost is an issue then there is no question. A well kept low mile turbo is not going to lose any significant value I the next 2 years. The 991 will drop 20K in 2 years.
If cost is not an issue, drive both. I have drive my buddies 991 and it is much more of a GT type car than my 996. I have not driven a turbo but I assume it is stiffer than the standard 996.
Life is good if these are the type of decisions you have to make.
I own a 996 C2, and drove the new Boxster, the 991 Carrera and 991 Carrera 2S at a Porsche Experience at Silverstone (England).
The 991 is better in every single way over the 996 and 997, however each bit is only a little bit better. A little bit faster, Handled a bit better, Sounded a bit better etc..
If I had the money I would certainly change to a 991, but I came away from that track day feeling even better about owning my 996.

I've only driven a 991 once (C4S), so take my post with a grain of salt. For a car that I only drive 4,000 miles a year, I'd stick with the 996 TT. It's a more involving car with significantly more feedback (steering and suspension) and sensation overall.
I'd consider a 997, in particular one of the GT3 variants (or even the turbo), before a 991 for a car that is used on such a limited basis. Just my $.02.
From a purely financial standpoint, it makes no sense to get the 991 if you only put a couple thousand miles on it a year. The 991 will plummet in value over the next couple years, and with as much as you'll drive it, your mileage per dollar spent ratio will be very high. Also, if your Turbo is in good condition, you could very well be sitting on an appreciating asset considering how little you drive it and the fact that the 996 TT cars are well regarded, even by the 996 haters.
So, I am currently married to Sofia Vergara. I don't make love to her often, about once a year...but I am thinking that I should divorce Sofia and marry Eva Mendez. I know I will probably be making love to Eva just as often as I do to Sofia. Do you think I will be happy?
No man sad ever. Yet I am reading the car version of that ^^ here.
I think the comparison should be flipped as Eva has been on the scene(at least in the US) longer tha Sophia so technically Eva would be the older model here. Anyone remember her as an extra in one of Will Smith's rap videos back in the day?
Natalie as fine as she is, would make me feel like a child molester after watching her in "the professional" when it actually came out.
