Therefore, I run Porsche OEM 17mm spacers on the rear to improve the look.
Leading evidence: 'Run porsche oem 17mm spacers' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Recommend by porsche' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

For those running a separate set of wheels for your snows, what setup do you run?

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

So for my second post...
I'm leaning towards a '04 Carrera 4S Cab. As I live in RI I need AWD, and I'm looking for cars with hardtops included as this will be my daily.
For you northerners (or really anyone in the US this winter) who drive in the snow, how's a 4S in the snow if you put snows on it? I've been told really good, but that was from a guy trying to sell me it!
FWIW, you may not want to consider the lack of a hardtop as a deal breaker. Hardtops show up on eBay and Craigslist and can be had fairly cheaply. What may be more important, if you're looking for an '04, is that a car that was originally "hardtop delete" won't have the mounting brackets for the hardtop. IIRC, the kit to add the brackets is a few hundred bucks. As with many other topics, there are good hardtop threads in the forum. I have a hardtop for my cab, and I'm pretty impressed at how comfortable the car is in cold weather ( and I don't even have seat heaters :-( ).
Great advice... thank you so much! For a couple hundred bucks and the $750 or so I've seen hardtops go for it's very worth it. Now if I could just find the Red C4S with Tip...
I agree.
My experience is that my C4 has better "go" than it has "slow" in the slick stuff. Might be due to the rear weight bias.
Even my 1/2 ton pickup truck stops better in the snow and ice than the C4, which is typically not the case compared to other vehicles.
But the C4 takes off just as well as the pickup and certainly feels more secure when sliding around a bit.
Absolutely agree that was AWD is great for getting going but stopping is the great equalizer
Just don't disobey the laws if physics in going quicker than your brakes can handle and you will be fine
As for ground clearance, the only problem I have had is the getting over the snow the snow-plow shoves in front if my drive way.

C2 with snows here, it's my daily driver until the plows come by and pile 2' of snow at my neighborhood entrance.
The 911 rocks in the snow even as a 2wd, you'll be golden with a C4.
I drive my C4S in all weather conditions. I put proper winter wheels and tires on it for the cold weather season. It's a great all weather vehicle. As you've probably read above, winter tires make all the difference. I'd take a C2 with winter tires over a C4 with summer tires or with all-season tires any day. It's that important.
Reading the post not sure the ground clearance has been mentioned.
This has been a real limiting factor in Michigan where the snow on the road can be up to the headlights packing air vents and scuffing paint.
I daily a C2 Coupe with LM60 Blizzaks. I've never come even remotely close to getting stuck. The car is a bear.
I've never been in snow deeper than 4-6" on the road surface (which the car handled perfectly fine). Snow drifts are easy enough to punch through if you get a little steam before you hit them, but of course only soft snow so you don't damage the car. If it was icey, that could be problematic and you'd have to find another route so as to not scratch up the rocker panels, etc.
Oh, it helps a lot to fill up a full tank of gas the night before!
This was my first concern with winter driving. After allot of research (including speaking to some engineers while in Stuttgart) theres little cause for concern.
My car is a DD from CT with over 100k and it looks like a normally driven car in a non salt state. Its not pristine, but there are so few parts showing rust its amazing. The only bolts that were seized were the exhaust clamps, which are easy to fix and the clamps themselves are fine.
I just had the drivers side wheel bearing replaced, and not a single part of the process was hindered by frozen bolts/fastners. It actually took 1/2 the quoted time.
I lost allot of sleep initially with the idea of driving it year round, but witnessing first hand the quality of components used in these cars I am convinced they are awesome year round cars
For those running a separate set of wheels for your snows, what setup do you run? I think the car I'm looking at has 18x9 and 18x10 (or whatever the OEM setup was for a 04 C4S Cab).
The winter wheel/tire recommended by Porsche for the 996 C4S is:
Front: 8x18 wheel, 225/40 R18 tire
Rear: 10x18 wheel, 265/35 R18 tire
The 10x18 wheels in the rear will look "sunken" into the rear fenders compared to the summer 11x18 wheels and 295 width tires. Therefore, I run Porsche OEM 17mm spacers on the rear to improve the look.
Some additional road grime and corrosion is a small price to pay for being able to enjoy the car year-round. I put my fair-weather car away from December through March and to be honest sometimes it makes me wonder why I keep it since I enjoy the 911 so much all year.
I run the same setup, but minus the spacers. You hit it on the head that the rears look a little sunken.
