Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Well am sure this has been discussed before, but i was browsing thru the Auto-Moto french magazine and saw the picture of a silver to be 997 (other than the black one we all saw..) The headlights are all round now without the tear effect of the 996, very much like a 993's own.. Deceiving, the teardrop effect of the 996 headlights is to me the most artistic feature.. Wael

POST 2Original post

You're right, there has been several post etc. about 997. And yes, 997 will look more like 993, not only those 'egg' light will be history, but other aspects as well!

POST 3Original post

Let's just hope the don't regress to using window pillars and circa 1985 interior features like on a 993!

POST 4Original post

By what I have seen & heard, the 997 is going to be a wonderful car with all the great items from both the 996 & the 993. Perfect combo IMO. I cant wait.

POST 5Original post

Window pillars are cool, just wait till they come back as retro styling.

POST 6Original post

I agree, window pillars are cool and that interior is circa -65, not -85 (another thing that I think is cool) but they're not coming back on 997.

POST 7 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

see, we got enough trouble discerning pre-2000 996's and boxsters, now we're going to need prescription glasses to do the same for the 997 and the 993.. waz

POST 8 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Post 2004 discussion scenario: Son: Hey Dad! see this 996? Dad: Naa... it's a boxster Son: Ahh I thought t'was a 993 Dad: Kinda looked like a 997 to me.. Waz

POST 9Original post

Retro??? How about manual valve adjustments???

POST 11Original post

Not sure if this is an old pic or not, but here's one of the 997 in action... <img src="http://members.rennlist.com/adrial/6179_384x285.jpg" alt=" - " />

POST 12Original post

You can always tell a 993 from a 997 because of the gas tank cap access cover. It's on the left for a 993 on the right for a 997. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="wink.gif" />

POST 13 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

See those little white triangles on the sides of the headlights inwards are now cancelled, the lights are all round now.. I still think the teardrop headlights were fabulous.. waz

POST 14Original post

I love the teardrops. It modernizes the look of car! I'm sure the 997 will look nice. Just takes a little getting use to. I wasn't crazy about the new 7 Series BMW at first. It's growing on me.

POST 15Original post

Now the question is - do we hold off on new 996's until more is known about the 997?

I dont suppose you ever owned a 1985 911 Carrera 3.2, let alone sat in one. I did, and believe me, the interior is VERY different to a 993 (which I currently have), and different to even the 964 interior (which I used to own). Having got that off my chest, got to say that the 997 looks wonderful. As far as 996s go, I must say nothing beats the 996 GT2....that is absolutely, without a doubt THE Porsche to own.....

The think the point was that while there has obviously been some evolution from the earliest 911 through to the 933, the interior of all pre-996 Porsches is *remarkably* similar from a fundamental design standpoint.

POST 19Original post

What's the rumor on power plants, weight distribution, front ? rear? hydrogen even ?

POST 21Original post

Porsche has said that the next 911 will be a 6 cylinder, they have no future plans for an 8 (The Cayennes) for the 911 - this I read in AutoCar. My $.02 I think the rumor started when the Cayenne had been developed, obviously having only one model using this 8 cylinder didnt make sense so most people immediately thought the new 911 will be an 8, but I think the 8 cylinder is the motor to be used in the new Porsche coupe to compete with the SL and the BMW 6, and not for the 911.

POST 22Original post

Harold - ok - finished the task including a '71 and a 993TT back to back. All opinions will vary of course, but to my eye - the interiors are drawn from the same pen. I am of course talking about design fundamentals, not materials, fit 'n finish, etc... Then again - I just also sat in a new 2003 Alfa Romeo and was stunned to see how similar the interior design, including the dash mounted shifter, was to a 1971 Alfa I still have collecting dust somewhere. Great design sticks around...

POST 23Original post

found this on another Porsche site... <img src="http://www.flat-6.net/phpBB/uploads/81807028.jpg" alt=" - " /> the interior looks ugly IMO..... <img src="http://www.fototime.com/F785A3F865523AA/orig.jpg" alt=" - " /> <img border="0" alt="[ouch]" title="" src="graemlins/c.gif" />

POST 24Original post

Aren't all the pics so far just rendering of what the car will look like? And the 8 cylinder was rumored for the 2007 model year when they plan for more changes.

POST 25Original post

That 3 dial dash gauge is very Boxster-esque.
