Read evidence and context

Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

9 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

When I start my car and turn my lights on nothing happens. OK, need a new headlight switch, 120 bucks call it a day. However, the switch works after the car has warmed up... works perfectly on, off, on, off... no issues. Then I tried putting the light switch on the "on" position before starting the car, when I start it cold the lights come on. This is weird to me, if the switch was worn it wouldn't work no matter if the car was cold or warm. Any thoughts on this? Or should I get a road flare and a friend that can keep a secret and go buy a 997 Carrera 4 GTS Cabriolet?

POST 2Original post

Try asking in OT - those guys know way more about 996 stuff.

POST 3Original post

That the switch does not work when cold but works when warm is to me a sign the switch is worn out.

This was my experience too. Eventually the switch would not work when warmed up either.

POST 6 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Ah excellent thank you gents much appreciated. Randy - eat me.

POST 8Original post

I avoid the problem by avoiding odd switches and only using even ones.
