FWIW I bought an Innova scanner, it has the emission test ready light.

You don't need to keep power to the car to swap the battery unless you need to get your car smogged TODAY - it won't be emissions-test ready until you drive it for a while.

Good suggestion, although this is only the case for those States which hook up to the OBD-II port for smog tests, since the car must complete a whole bunch of drive-cycles for all the OBD-II parameters to be satisfied, you are fine if your state still uses the tail pipe sniffer.

I have an Autozone battery that has worked well for three years.
Have a couple questions on changing battery in 2004 996 cab. Thank you in advance
1. Are there radio codes in the 2004 stock radio. I heard this was no longer there. I have no codes and I am trying to understand if oversight or norm

Buying a standard battery and a battery tender is a cheaper solution than the deep-cycle battery, but do whatever makes you happy...
