I guess using the C4 chassis is another reason for the weight.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

From what I've heard and early rumors have been told, the 6 piston monobloc calipers will come on the GT3 Cup version. They are the some calipers just painted red. The one in the pics look like 6 piston calipers. Maybe they will have the 6 piston set up?

The front brakes on the street going GT3 *will* have a 6-piston caliper while the rears will be the more conventional (for Porsche) 4-piston caliper. My guess is they'll be the same as the GT2's.
From a press release:
"The supreme qualities of the 911 GT3 in terms of acceleration, flexibility and top speed are matched just as convincingly by the car's stopping power and deceleration to master the even greater power of the engine and the car's dynamic performance enhanced to a new level by the optimised chassis and suspension. The front brake discs have been increased in diameter by 20 millimetres to the new dimension of 350 millimetres or 13.8". And compared with the previous model featuring four-piston fixed callipers,
the new 911 GT3 comes with far more powerful six-piston brake callipers finished by tradition in red
. These callipers enlarge the contact area between the brake pads and the brake discs by approximately 40 per cent, ensuring outstanding deceleration and stopping power even under the toughestconditions.
As an option the new 911 GT3 may be equipped with Porsche Ceramic Composite Brakes (PCCB). Cross-drilled and inner-vented, these ceramic composite brake discs measuring 350 millimetres in diameter are 50 per cent lighter than metal brake discs and reduce unsprung masses by approximately 18 kg. In conjunction with the brake lining also developed specifically for this model, the ceramic brake discs immediately ensure a very high and, in particular, consistent frictional coefficient throughout the entire brakingprocess."
Yes, the GT3 street car will have the same steel rotors and calipers as on the GT3 Cup. The calipers may be the same on the GT2 but the rotors and pads are obviously different for PCCB.
The extra weight of these rotors and calipers may be part of the reason the GT3 street car will weigh 3042 lbs. dry. That's only a few lbs. less than my 1999 996 C2. I guess using the C4 chassis is another reason for the weight.

Does anyone have any more info on the GT3 tires? If you apply a contrast enhancement to the above photo, you can see the Michelin logo and tire size label but no other model information. Also, the tread design along the edge does not seem to match any of the Pilot Sport and Sport Cup designs.

Perhaps, a new tire falling between the Sport and the Sport Cup?
"One of the most important objectives of Porsche's motorsport development engineers in creating the new model was to ensure maximum traction under all conditions which made it essential to give the tyres particular consideration.
In close cooperation with one of the world's leading tyre manufacturers in terms of tyre technology, they thus created new tyres especially for the new 911 GT3 offering not only superior everyday driving qualities, but also exceptional dynamic reserves with even more precise driving and steering behaviour as well as an extremely high standard of lateralacceleration.
The relatively soft rubber compound of the tyres serves to provide optimum grip even under high temperatures
. Until further notice, the 911 GT3 will come exclusively with these tyres for road use. Winter tyres and special snow chains are however available as an option, as with the 911 Turbo."
this is the latest Michelin street tire, maybe this is what Porsche offer the GT3s...

KLZ, that looks like the Sport Cup tread pattern. See here for info. I agree with Viken, given Porsche's history I think an intermediate between the Sport and Cup is more likely. On the other hand, tire development costs are high, and the Cup is now advertised clearly by Michelin as a high performance alternative. So maybe it will be the Cup. If so, an aggressive move by Porsche, and very welcome, especially since the car's suspension setup will have been developed with respect to its capabilities.
If you guys look at this picture closely, you'll notice that the tread on the tires is not quite like the Sport Cup's and certainly not like the Sport's directional design. As such, my guess is this is a specially developed tire for the GT3 which may fall between the
Sport
and the
Sport Cup
in performance.

FWIW, the Sport Cup was originally developed for Porsche's club racing. Hence the pictures showing Porsche wheels. This tire is not entirely suited for everyday street driving and Porsche would never install it on a street legal car as a standard tire.
I'm now thinking that the GT3 will come with the new version of the Pilot Sports (not Cup) called the Ribbed. Used to be listed at tirerack, but not sure if they still have photos.

But, the tread on the *Rib* is unidirectional while the tires on the GT3 appear to have a non-directional tread.

A couple questions....
1. Those do not look like coilovers, are they?
2. The drop links are not adjustable, are the sway bars as the old one was?
3. Intersting air intake / filter. Do you think it could retro? The air inlet is on the wrong side though. Guess that would have to be changed too.
4. Why can't I have a 8200 rpm redline in my car :-(
5. The clubsport car had the front center console, is that no longer deleted?
