Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Good point,Ed...i have also wonder about this since the cup cars do use a cone filter...not sure of the answer...there also was an article in Excellence magazine awhile back were they dyno tested a 996 with a power flow cone intake system...there was a HP loss
Leading evidence: 'Test 996' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Test 996' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

What's the difference between the Evo High Flow air intake at Evolution Motorsports and the AireTEK QuickFlow Intake offered on Pelican parts. These look idetical. Only difference i see is price.
$379 at <a href="http://www.evoms.com" target="_blank">www.evoms.com</a>
$110 at <a href="http://www.pelicanparts.com" target="_blank">www.pelicanparts.com</a>
The part from pelican is for a turbo, the part you need doesn't show a price.
That intake btw, has a bad reputation around here. There are those that say it's location allows it to pull in too much residual hot air from the engine which actually causes a performance decrease.
Look at the design of the stock intake, it is very logical...cold air rushes over the car and is caught by the fins positioned in just a way to catch all the rushing air. The natural speed of the car shoots air into the engine, all this w/o the need for an upgrade...
IMHO
I've been looking at these and am unsure of the details. One has a cold air inlet and one does not. I'd expect a big difference between them. HP is not the only item, I also would like the sound improvement.
If you want sound, buy a good exhaust, and headers if you want to splurge. Does the X51 come with a sport exhaust? If not, it's the best place to put your money for good sound.
Personally, I would just drop in a high-flow filter like BMC or K&N and leave the intake stock.
Personally, I think my exhaust was the best overall upgrade I have done.
Have fun! What color is your car?
i had it on my 2001 cab and hated it -seriously it decreased performance and my check engine light came on from it constantly b/c too much air was getting in hot and cold - bad product
I tried it on my '00 C4. The sound was loud but not really satisfying - kind of resonant. And the car developed a flat-spot at about 2500 rpm. I sent it back for a refund. But it's certainly possible that it's been improved over the past couple years.
The 996 does not benefit from a cone filter intake system, because of the air filter housing is located just above the catalytic converters, which will only bring in more hot air... any temperature over 30C,the ignition is retarded by 9 degrees whether the engine is knocking or not. This reduces power by 10-15hp..its better to stick with the stock system
The reason why 24me,is because i have a Boxster S, the air box is in a different area than a 996,tuck away on the upper left side, right behind the driver's head, you can hear it howling :-), the sound is awesome... remember the Boxster is mid-engine,not rear engine..HP gain is proven on several dynos gain is about 7-10HP...also there is better air flow to the intake, because of the driver's side air vent(the cone filter sits right behind this vent).
Ok, playing devil's advocate for a second. If the hp loss from air temp is 1 hp per 10 degrees, it will have to be a lot hotter to lose some gains. What about the cup car? It uses a cone open in the engine compartment. Particularly for racing where temps are at a maximum, shouldn't this prove that more hot air is still better than less cold air? Optimally a complete better system is the way to go. What about the parts from the new GT3, do we think they can retro? Looks like a much better deisgn.
