Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

It would have been cheaper to use the existing speakers and amps, but I was looking for a sound quality improvement also.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I was thinking of swapping the aging 16bit PCM in my 2002 C4S, but now have second thoughts.
I would have to fork out close to USD 3'000+ for everything (top of the line Kenwood unit with all the trimmings) and was thinking maybe it's not worth it in the end.
For less than USD 100 I can get a GPS App for the iPad and/or iPhone for all of western Europe (no need to be online) so maybe this makes more sense than a flashy new unit...
What is the general feeling out there and does it make sense to swap it or not? I'm also thinking of an eventual resell later on...
Happy New Year all :-)
I think if you ar epaying 3000 for an audio and headunit set up you are shopping in all the wrong places! it may be different because you are from ze svitzerland but still...
It's a big investment, no doubt. I went through the same decision process a few years ago. In my case, AM/FM radio is virtually useless because I live in the mountains. Sirius/XM and Pandora are wonderful. I also really wanted navigation with live traffic updating. The hands-free Bluetooth phone connection wasn't as important because the interior of the 996 is so loud when driving that phone calls are difficult.
I decided to bite the bullet and do the upgrade. I'm happy I did it. I replaced all my speakers too. It would have been cheaper to use the existing speakers and amps, but I was looking for a sound quality improvement also. I agree with jumper - it does really update the 996 interior.
Arrrrggghhhh.... Back to square one. Caught between the most sensible option and the "looker/upgrade" option... Have to think about this further :-( One part of me wants it badly, and another not so.
Yes,

, this is Switzerland so everything costs twice of that of "normal" places and funny thing is that I live less than 350 km (220 miles) South West of Stutgart where parts costs a fraction
This is what I did when I lived in Zurich and had my 850: Drive up to Freiburg i.Br in Deutschland, drop off your car at Hifi Mueller there, make a sensible choice (they are great in helping you with it) and have a fantastic installation at about 60% of the expense in CH, and enjoy. Just smile at the CH customs officer when re-entering CH.
