I get the whole Porsche tax thing. We drive a premium car. But how does the 996.1 Porsche switch cost $243?? I can find the 2002 and later switch online for 60 bucks. Will the newer one really not fit my 996.1?

I don't know about the sunroof switch specifically, but in my experience all the switches are identical in operation. The difference between 996.1 and 996.2 is the finish of the switches. The .1 switches are glossy, and the .2 switches are matte. I swapped all the center console switches to .2 versions on my '99 and they worked fine.
