I know alot of people doubt they will mess with it much (after the front light change, etc, 2002)...but I guess it wouldn't surprise me if they 'freshened' it a bit one last time?....Around Wiessach this past summer there were round-eyed (993-like) test mules.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

12 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Is there any official news of when the replacement for the 996 is slated to arrive? What model year will it arrive as? Rumors of engine displacement? Horsepower? Will the 997 be a minor update or will it be a drastic change as there was from the 993 to 996? Thanks.

POST 2Original post

I have the same questions. There has been a lot of gossip but no real information from Porsche. A few photos were going around on this. I can't wait to see some real info on the new 911.

POST 3Original post

There is a new photo (although disguised) of the 997 test mule in the latest edition of Excellence. Just came out.

POST 4Original post

The 997 on those pics look like just a regular 996 model with some added on skirts, front bumper bumper, etc. I don't think thats a 997 at all, just presents some modified bobywork but still based on a 996.

All editors are appalled at the photoshoped pictures saying, with Porsche personnel, that the new car will not come out until 2005 and that the 997 pictures are false, irresponsible journalism as P-car owners will wait to buy given this false info etc... Nothing but photoshop. They also say that no decision has been made regarding motor, etc. Just relaying what was written in Flat 6 and RS Mag. JM

POST 6Original post

Thats great info Jean Marc! certainly seems more logical that the 997 will come out no earlier than 2005 at least due to thew cayenne sucking up all the resources and not just a simple re-styling over the 996.

POST 7Original post

Thought that I had read in the UK 911 magazine that Porsche was thinking about going a bit retro back to the oval laid back lights of the 993 to further remove the 911 look from the Boxster. The photos shown in the link seem to fit that idea.

POST 9Original post

If 2005 (for MY 2006) is accurate it will be interesting to see what Porsche offers for the 996 in model years 2004 and 2005 to keep people interested.

POST 10Original post

Don I figured the GT3 was part of that effort. M

So, possibly that and a few other panal/light tweeks (retro or whatever) and that's it?
