Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Suggestion

My 99 996 are standard lights front with clear lenses and clear lenses on the rear, I would have thought it strange to find orange lenses on just one end, if this is the case then I would have thought that one end set has been replaced, for whatever reason, maybe upgrade maybe repair?

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I found a 996 that looks good and meets my criteria, however while it does have the litronics, the rear lights are not clear in the back and in fact have the yellow as if it originally didn't have litronics from the factory. Upon questioning the owner or pointing it out, I was told that they are an option to have the rears clear and not paired with litronics as I thought. Is this true? I have never seen a car with litronics without the clear rear tail lights. Someone please let me know. It is a 99 also if that makes a difference. Thanks.

POST 2Original post

Early MY 99 cars all had amber front and rear turn signals. My 99 originally had clear H4 (not Litronics) in the front and has clear rear lights -- My car built in June 99. I added the Litronics and they are also clear. I think both <a href="http://www.carnewal.com" target="_blank">Carnewal.com</a> and Performance Products sell a retrofit lights.

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I am not so much interested in the actual kit as I am with the rear lights. I am only going to get a car that has litronics, however it struck me as odd that the particular car with "factory" litronics had the amber lenses in the rear instead of the smoked or clear ones that I have always seen paired with the litronics for 99 up. that is my main question, namely, don't factory equiped 996's with litronics always have the clear matching rears from the factory? This is the first time I have seen the amber lenses on the rear on a car that had the litronics, which makes me believe that the car originally had the halogen from the factory and that the litronics were added after. So what is the verdict?

POST 4Original post

I may be wrong on this but the rear light color has nothing to do with litronics. The rear light color on all 99's was yellow, all 00 and onward had gray/clear rear lights. My 00 Car had clear rear lights without litronics. My current car has clear rear and litronics... Hope this helps. Roy

POST 5Original post

SPR - Litronics can always be added later. ONLY early MY99s had amber lens. Roy - My MY99 (June build) has clear rear lens that came on the car.

Possibly ask for printout of service history for clues, has it been kept with the same OPC?

POST 7Original post

The only difference between the Litronic "option," and the Litronic "upgrade" is that the upgrade does not communicate with the computer and thus does not self level. Either way the lights are factory. The upgrade does, however, shift the Litronic beam higher to blend with the halogen high beam.

POST 8Original post

Might be to late to help you out, but here's the way to figure it out for sure. Open the front hood and look under it for a sticker contaning the M options. If it has M601 the car came factory that way. If not, they are a add on.

POST 9 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

awesome that's what I was told to do as well, but didn't know the exact codes. Is there a place that would list all of the codes so I could print them out when I am to look at the possible cars? That would help enourmously, and that option code is implicit. thanks

POST 10Original post

My car has M601 but also came with red/amber tail lights, which I have since changed to the red/clear style of later 99 and on 996's. I just went down to local Porsche dealer and ordered a set of tail lights from a 2000 model(so as to have no amber/clear confusion) and popped them in, they look great! I also took out the amber bulbs from the clear lights and switched them with the clear bulbs from the amber lights. Now I have red/clear lenses and clear bulbs, clear side markers, and litronics. Nice. Good Luck.

POST 11 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Ah, so my answer is solved! Evidently they have come that way. What did the rears run you off hand? Thanks for your help!
