Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

After cutting you can bend it as you like (with a different bend it does fit closer to the seat just not quite as well and I have another cupholder in that spot as I'm using two.

Like many here, I've used the Ultimate Cupholder for decades in many BMW's & Porsches.

Perhaps when i've finished my rear cage i can make a clip for it off one of the tubes and plumb a straw in so she can fill her bladder more.

I used a hacksaw to cut the metal at the elbow joint as it's too stiff and tightly curved to easily bend straight (maybe with a good vise etc it could be done).

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Like many here, I've used the Ultimate Cupholder for decades in many BMW's & Porsches. He doesn't seem to be making them anymore and this is the closest I've found on Amazon:

I added velcro to the back and bottom to help it stay in place but they aren't really needed. Also it's pretty large inside so you will want some felt or foam to keep bottles from rattling around.
IMHO, this one is better...

I have one in my car and it's great and doesn't block shifting and bother passengers legs.
When you posted about this cupholder last year my comment was, "
I paid 100 dollars for a door sill umbrella that will never see rain but I'm drawing the line at $180 cup holders
". My opinion hasn't changed in the last 12 months.
I have the Rennline cupholder for the 996 and it works well. I have the Ultimate cupholder for a Cayman and prefer that over the Rennline slightly because it is wider and can hold larger plastic bottles. The Rennline holds the standard size beverages. I should have bought more Ultimate cupholders back in the day!
I preferred the aesthetics of the Rennline over the other current options. It does the job and feels very high quality.
Just wanted to say thanks for this post, I decided to use it without the metal bracket and made myself a little wooden wedge that I painted black. It turned out super nice for $11.99
Since I started dailying my 996, I just decided to stop drinking and driving. Seriously. If Im out to lunch or something, I used to refill my drink before I left and take with me in the car. Now I just dont. I finish it, walk out empty handed and focus on driving. I just stopped taking drinks with me in the car. It actually is possible!
Ok a week with the $12 cup holder is a smashing success
2 small drawbacks it’s a little too big but is great for the floor mount
the other is it needs a few mounting point alternatives double sided tape and or holes in the metal to permanently attach
but overall it’s great
I bought this one.

It's probably not as sturdy as the one post here, and won't hold a Big Gulp, but any water bottle or regular size to-go cup will fit fine. I like the fact that it folds up and out of the way to allow for more space for passengers and to look inconspicuous to others. I straightened the metal arm somewhat and was able to slide it up underneath the carpeted portion of the center console.
I was half expecting this thread to be about the third product offering from
@Porschetech3
alongside the UAOS and the UIDS. The UCH, now available at LN Engineering...
Do you guys happen to know what years/models have the horizontal seam in the carpeting and which ones don't?
I installed one of my cup holders on a 996 cab and tucked the tab behind the center console like I do on the other models, but it looks like there is an opportunity to slip it between the carpet seams as well.
Yep it really is possible!
Emotional support bottles aren't really needed, just have to also convince my wife.
She still brings a giant bottle, but somehow keeps it in her bag or on the floor and always moans about it.
Perhaps when i've finished my rear cage i can make a clip for it off one of the tubes and plumb a straw in so she can fill her bladder more.
I only care about "hard core parts" .... I leave the Cup Holders and such to others.....
I remember having lunch in Reno with a large group of Porsche Field Engineers. We were discussing Porsche Topics and someone asked when Porsche was going to incorporate Blue-Tooth into Porsche 996 radios ...The head Engineer quickly said "Radio's and Cup Holders don't belong in 911's ,, we only do it because we have to " ....
I don't even know if my Radio still works, I can't remember when was last time I turned it on !!!

I do not have any experience with this cupholder -- just saw it mentioned on a another forum that it fits and works well with he 996. There are no pictures of it mounted on the car in the listing either. From the description, it sounds like it bolts to the seat slider rails, which sounds like it would be pretty solid. Sorry I don't have any info, but seems like it has some potential to be solid cup holder, so adding it to this thread in case it benefits anyone. If anyone has experience with thiis type of holder, would love to see a pic of it mounted and hear your thoughts about whether it works well.
Apparently for manual seat 996's according to description:

Presumably for electric seats (since the other is for manual seats):
