Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Suddenly the horn changed its tone to a lower frequency, usually a sign of one of the horns failing..

The car I worked on needed to have the bumper cover replaced - so we replaced the horns and retrofitted the outside temp sensor at the same time.

While you have it off it is a good time to clean the debris from the front radiators too.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Suddenly the horn changed its tone to a lower frequency, usually a sign of one of the horns failing.. My question: is it only one horn that the car has or are there two? Coz i cant see except one on the passenger side inside the front bumper next to the temperature probe..

I can't help you with this, but make sure you repair it as soon as possible coz you really need it with what you have in your other part of the world.

There are two horns located on the passenger side behind the front bumper cover. The part numbers are as follows:
High Pitched -- 996 635 206 02
Low Pitched -- 996 635 205 02
Removing the front bumper cover is about a 30 minute job. While you have it off it is a good time to clean the debris from the front radiators too. If you need instructions let me know.
From my Boxster experience - 996 should be the same.
There are 2 horns mounted on a single bracket, behind the bumper cover, on the right side. One horn is above the other. The lower mounted horn is the high pitch and the upper is the low pitch. You can see the lower horn through the opening in the bumper cover but not the one mounted above it. Every 9X6 car I have seen with a horn that does not work has been the lower or high pitched horn. That horn points down to the road and is not protected by the bumper cover as much as is the upper horn - so my theory is that rain water gets to it over time.
The shop manual says you can get the lower horn out throught the opening the the bottom of the bumper cover - good luck doing it that way. The car I worked on needed to have the bumper cover replaced - so we replaced the horns and retrofitted the outside temp sensor at the same time. Jeff
Loren,
Pls can you send me info on how to remove the bumper cover?
I will try to do it myself if it's easy, otherwise i will avoid some1 doing it for me coz i dont trust anyone here for that.. I'm just back from a 275km/hr run and i am not devoting my life to some lose screw due to some lazy local labour..
I will get a Mercedes E-class ~Pwaaap!~ horn (sounds the same if not louder) instead of porsche part.
THanks Jeff for pictures, i guess that'll be next weekend job..

..and btw why is it so hard to go above 275km in the car? is it coz both the windows and roof were open? After 270, every 1km/hr took about 1km to achieve..
