Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Suggestion

Unless you are adept at measuring small bores/tapers/etc, and have the appropriate equipment to do so, I'd replace the lifter carrier for the $5-600 it cost.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I am measuring the ovality / roundness of a 996.1 engine. So far, what I have is they are either perfectly matched, or 0.001 (inch) out on the 6-12 o'clock position. Should I consider that 0.001 ovality inch in spec? Actual numbers are 1.3000 to 1.3010 inch. (that looks like 33mm nominal specs)

POST 2Original post

I don't know what the 3.6 specs. is, in the flat tappet lifters we kept it to .001 to .0015 max. in the engine from 4.5 L to 80 L engines..

POST 3Original post

Did you also measure for taper in the lifter bores? If so, what did you find? I will be replacing intake lifters in my car soon and can't really seem to find any data on taper and ovality. Curious to see what you come up with.

Unless you are adept at measuring small bores/tapers/etc, and have the appropriate equipment to do so, I'd replace the lifter carrier for the $5-600 it cost. As the lifters alone are very very expensive. And you'd want them to operate at their best,, not leaking excess oil pressure filling up the head with needed sump oil... jmo
