This leads me to wonder whether the previous owner swapped the suspension.

I suspect that the previous owner changed the suspension cause the ride is pretty harsh.

The weird that is that the car I have now handles much better than the C4 I test drove.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi Guys:
Some of you might have remembered me for inquring about Porsches. Well, I finally did it. Last Sat. I traded my M5 for a 2000 Black/Black C2(TiP) with aerokit, 18 inch turbo rims, Navi etc..etc..
I suspect that the previous owner changed the suspension cause the ride is pretty harsh. Maybe one of these days, I can compare my car's height with one of you guys' cars.
Anyways, just wanna share with you guys the good news.
Cheers,
Sugi
Hey Swing, I have an '02 M5 that I'm changing for a new C4 in April. Can you sum up the differences in handling and performance between the two cars please?
Spie:
I have to say that the M5 feels alot faster and from 80 - 100+ it will break no sweat. However, I have a tip so I'm not too sure how much faster it will accelerates in the 6-spd version.
The handling dept, the 911 wins hands-on. The weird that is that the car I have now handles much better than the C4 I test drove. It can be attributed to a few things. The C4 I drove is so stable and it does handles like itz on rails but it gives up some fun factor like tossibility etc. I do believe that it will outhandle a C2 in tight corners but if you dun track that often / drive the car in foul weather, the C2 might gives you more enjoyment. If we're talking about C4S, that is another whole diff. ball-game.
One thing to note is that the C2's ride is ALOT harsher than the M5. It kinda beat the driver up (still have to get used to it). This leads me to wonder whether the previous owner swapped the suspension.
Both the M5 and Porsche are awesome car. However, if your needs call for a sedan, there is none better than the M5, but if you want something sportier with more SEX appeal
..the Porsche might be the way to go.
I was also considering a new M3 (SMG) but having owned 3 BMW, it's time to try something new

Congrats and welcome to the board!!! Hope too see you at the track next season which is where the car should be : ). All the feelings of harshness will go away once you get on the track- it's a true workhorse. I drove my friend's M5 and it's bar none thee best sedan out there(trq monster with a manny to boot!!!). Regards. Mike

Some pics I took on Sat. I had the GT3 wing installed today. The dealer has to remove it before cuz the previous owner has a turbo emblem on and they can't have it on (for legal issues). Dun worry guys, I have it removed already so no more poser worries
Cheers,

Thanks for the info Sugi
Before I bought the M5 I test drove a C4 (01)Tip with STD suspension and was very unimpressed. It just felt soft and lethargic, so I bought an M5. The M5 is a quite incredible car performance wise, with only one flaw - it just looks too ordinary.
With that in mind I had to revisit my 911 experience and a couple of months ago drove a C4 (02) manual with 030 suspension. Felt like a completely different car - tighter, more responsive and faster. Of course the extra 20BHP helped over the 01 car.
I placed my order and the car arrives mid-April. I'm extremely excited about it but I know I will miss the unique levels of performance that the M5 offers. Massive grunt with great handling in a smooth riding package.
However, life is about dreams and owning a 911 has always been one of mine
Spie:
You will miss the torque of the M5 but just the feeling of being in a Porshce (there is no substitute) and the whole experience is enthralling. I've owned tons of fast cars and as I'm getting older, I do not really care much abt 0-60 etc...itz more about living the dream (and I had been dreaming abt the Porsches since I dunno when)
Don: You called it, I bought the car on Sat. and I went in on Monday to pick up the clear markers...I'm thinking abt doing something to the turn signal to make it look silver-ish and clean. (I had the silvervision bulbs on my M5 and those are awesome)
