I had the door card off and pulled the foam vapor barrier back to find and check every bolt and screw for tightness.

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I would appreciate it if anyone could please help me identify this plastic piece from my 2004 cabriolet. Hopefully, all of my pictures shot from different angle show up in this message. It is about 45 mm long (1 and 5/8 inches) and about 15 mm wide (a little over 1/2 inch). I found it sitting in the passenger seat. Does it look like something that snapped and dropped down to the seat the last time I raised the convertible top? I also took the passenger door apart a couple of days ago trying find a way to tighten up the window that rattles when it is down all the way and you close the door. I had the door card off and pulled the foam vapor barrier back to find and check every bolt and screw for tightness. I wonder if something popped and shot out on to the seat. I don't remember anything super huge but there might have been one mystery pop. The grab handle trim of the door was an absolute bear to get off but seemed to go back on OK.
As far as the window rattle when down it is probably the regulator "cables" that are not tie-strapped down... they will rattle when closing the door if not "strapped"..
ON the plastic piece .....if you could fit the two broken pieces together and take a pic it will help....most likely it came from the Top as you suspect...are there no "numbers' on it ??
Long story short, the only thing I can think of is that it may be part of a plastic lock insert that was stuck into a new low profile jack for packing/shipping. I didn't notice it during unpacking and there was no warning label or even a reference to it on the jack itself or the instructions. When I pulled the jack pump handle down for the first time, there was a loud crack and I heard a piece fly off and bounce off the ceiling. I never found the second piece that shot off. Hopefully this is it. It
would
mean my girlfriend has sat on it twice for two outings though and never noticed it.

I just looked at a couple of installation videos to see if I could see cable tie(s) you are referencing. I just see one shown in the picture below (NOT my car but a screen capture from someone else's Youtube video) and circled in red. Is that the one you think might be missing (I will have to open the door up again before I can check mine)? Are there other places I should add more zip ties? If so, can you please give me a brief description of the location. I don't want to install one wrong and have it mess up the regulator's movement.

No numbers unfortunately.
Thanks!
Yes that is the one you have circled in red...if it doesn't have that cable secured it will rattle against the glass when the window is down and shutting the door..
