Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Okay, you techies out there.
When I start up my 02 C2 Cab after at least a week of resting the car emits quite a bit of smoke.
What is most likely happening?
Hi Hsummy:
I am not an expert, but I remember that the head mechanic at my dealership told me that the '02 996 will need to add at least 1 quart of oil every 1K-2K miles. He also said it is "regular as clockwork" and "it is normal because these are high compression engines"
So I interpret that to mean our '02 996 tends have oil leaking around the rings, and that is the possibility where all of your smoke is coming from. How many miles do you have on your 996? Have you checked your oil lately?
I would still take it in to have the dealer check it out.
What is also strange
, is that we have had our '02 996 since 9/01. We have racked up 7,000 miles and have not had to add a single quart yet. We went back to our dealer on 9/02 to ask why we didn't need to add oil and was told that our '02 996 was just lucky
and we won't need a oil change until we reach 15,000.
Hope this helps, happy motoring.

I don't think this is a normal situation as some dealers would have you believe. I have seen a friends '02 beltch out copious amounts of white smoke at startup during a recent DE, just can't be normal. Things to consider might be overfill on oil, oil seperator malfunction,or worse case blown head gasket, cracked block/cylinder head.
hsummy, How hard was it driven be you put it away?
Here's why I ask.. After driving @ Watkins Glenn this past July, (read driving hard) I'd come into the paddock & turn it off, and apon re-start it smoked like $ell! for 30 seconds. Inspection found all OK. Asked around and was advised to let it idle for 2-3minutes after hard running. Worked like a charm. Somthing about oil loading up in the cylinders. Hope it works for you.

Thanks for all the replys.
I have 11k on the machine and have had it inspected and the mechanic indicates nothing is wrong.
Doesn't seem normal to me though so I thought I would ask the group cause you guys are the best knowledge base.
The smoke has been after driving hard but still seamed strange to me.
