Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I hear this sound that can be best described as a loud TRRNNGGGGGG (almost like old-school bicycle bell) that happens when the tach needle sweeps past 5200 and disappears around 5400. It is higher pitched than the engine note and is very noticable. Even though I have a 2001, I bought it only 3 months ago and the mileage now is around 2500. I was waiting till hitting 2000 to really start exploring the upper-end of the engine, so I have never had the chance to notice this before. Can anyone shed any light as to what this might be?

POST 2Original post

Does it happen when the car is parked, and if so cant you have some1 rev the car while you track the source of the sound? wael

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks Wael. I drove it to work yesterday and noticed that the odd harmonic sound is gradually getting less or disappearing all together. Maybe it was due to the fact that the engine is being "broken" into these rpm's for the first time? Who knows but I'm now happy again

POST 4Original post

I'd really check for doubtful issues that can come back again.. maybe a wire is caught in the shafts or something else like a lose screw that really got out! better safe than sorry.. anyway, glad things are getting normal again.. Wael
