Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Also, you could easily get the car on the interstate that is 3 blocks from the dealership and put 20-25 miles on the car pretty quickly during a test drive.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Then note the driving gloves on the passenger seat!! Hopefully the winning bidder points that out and gets a sweet deal.

POST 2Original post

Brand new doesn't mean never driven. It just means never registered.

POST 3Original post

So my car is still new at 1250 miles? My temp tags just expired and I haven't been to the DMV to register my car yet. Ken

POST 4Original post

[quote]Originally posted by 18000rpm: Brand new doesn't mean never driven. It just means never registered.

I think actually never titled, ie still on the MSO.

POST 5Original post

Ken - I assume your question is posed tongue-in-cheek, but obviously your car is no longer "new" since title transferred at sale. Maryland might have it's own special rules, but "registration" is generally the determining event for whether the car is recognized as "new". Demos are a special exception that require disclosure upon ultimate sale to the general public.

POST 6Original post

"New" at 156 miles, huh? I know some cars get miles from the factory, on delivery and what not, but I think 156 miles is a bit much, IMHO. I was at a DE where a car dealership owner was one of the participants. He was in the blue group with me. He was driving an Audi S4, with the sticker still in the window!! He went off track twice in one day, and was booted off the course. I wonder if the Audi S4 went back on the lot as "new"? Maybe same thing with this "new" Porsche.

POST 7Original post

It's an 02. That could be only about 10 test drives, pretty reasonable for being on the lot for a year. Usually when I test drive a car I put at least 10-20 miles on it.

POST 8 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I think the funny part lies in the driving gloves on the seat, folks! I doubt normal test drivers would wear/leave behind their gloves... to me, the dealer used this thing as his personal demo car, and left the evidence behind!!!

POST 9Original post

[quote]Originally posted by urbanski: I doubt normal test drivers would wear/leave behind their gloves...

Oh, come on. The gloves are surely a gift from the dealer! I found a Porsche hat in the back seat of my car a few days after it was in for service. Also found a keychain in one of the side pockets. Yeah, that's it. The dealer is leaving a nice pair of driving gloves for the prospective buyer.

POST 10Original post

Did anyone notice the MPG? 10.8? Is that normal for a brand new 996? Seems like those 156 miles may be very hard ones.....

POST 11 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

[quote]Originally posted by slevy951: Did anyone notice the MPG? 10.8? Is that normal for a brand new 996? Seems like those 156 miles may be very hard ones.....

I did not notice that, but it's gotta be a smoking gun, too. Mine was at 19mpg all the time. Man...that is beating on it to get only 10!

POST 12Original post

Well, alternatively, it could mean 156 honest miles of driving between showroom floor and detail room, and up and down the truck ramps..... Just depends on whether you are optimistic or pessimistic doesn't it? That would easily be single digit mpg. My corvette showed 8mpg when I bought it new with 49 mi. Dealer claimed nobody test drove it before. I'll assume they had to drive 49 mi up and down the truck ramps

[quote]Originally posted by slevy951: Did anyone notice the MPG? 10.8? Is that normal for a brand new 996? Seems like those 156 miles may be very hard ones.....

If the car was allowed to idle for a long time, the MPG would be low. Just a thought. Cheers, Ken

POST 14Original post

All: I work about 1 mile from Concours Motors in Milwaukee. I've seen this car in person last week and it is new. I've test driven a bunch of cars at Concours over the years and even the short route that the salespersons use is over 6 miles long. Also, you could easily get the car on the interstate that is 3 blocks from the dealership and put 20-25 miles on the car pretty quickly during a test drive. That's only about 6-8 drives. The car has been there for a bit, so 156 miles is pretty realistic for a car that is in stock and is available for driving. Also, at the time these photos were taken, we had recently gotten snow here near Lake Michigan. Temps at that time only got into the low 20's during the day and these are late afternoon shots where temps were probably in the teens. It's customary to wear gloves here in Wisconsin when it's cold. Also, the car was taken off the dealer lot to take these photos. The dealership is in an urban setting and based on the background in the photos, I'm sure they took the car near the Lake (Milwaukee is located on Lake Michigan) or to a nearby park to shoot nicer photos with a nicer backdrop than urban sprawl. That will add a few miles too. I would assume the sales staff drove the car to this location, took off their gloves, left them on the seat and snapped some photos. Also, due to Concours limited parking and showroom space, they move cars around a lot between the front 'display' lots and the rear storage lots. This helps keep different new cars near the street for display. Idling, parking lot driving, prep area visits, and spirited test drives in this f'n cold weather we have been having will definitely reduce average gas mileage. Since it's winter, most people are not shopping for a new 911 in this area, hence the reason for the car still being on the lot. Concours has a few 2002 P-cars left yet. My conversations with the sales staff at Concours leads me to believe they are very motivated to sell these cars, so they probably are trying eBay to widen their market. I don't work for Concours, have no interest in their gains, etc, etc, but they have supported our local PCA club a lot in the past and have a great service and parts staff that I rely on for my 964, so I thought I would add my $.02 to this post.
