Performed · outcome unconfirmed

Read a import magazine where they tested several exhausts systems on same car and did a cat-back bypass(no exhaust) and results were very small(matter of 1-2 hp).

I wonder if you can also run much shorter exhaust length by not crossing the pipes.

1) This might sound silly but I smtms do a 'leak test' on my cars to see if their exhausts are leaking air from some hole or joint..

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

1) This might sound silly but I smtms do a 'leak test' on my cars to see if their exhausts are leaking air from some hole or joint.. usually, i keep the engine at idle and just plug shut the exhaust outlet to build up pressure OR there is any leak which i can hear from the pipes under.. This works great with my 928 but when i try it with the 996 (shutting both outlests) the car doesnt build up any pressure.. does it mean my exhausts are leaking somewhere? 2) Is it possible to bypass the cats in the 996? We have no regulations here about that, and most probably our fuel is Leaded.. Sooner or later, i know they'll clog. What should i do? Moreover, is it true the car gains a few horses and newton-meters while bypassing cats?? Wael 996C2

POST 2Original post

Don't know, but I am curious about the results of that race you were suppose to have with the M5.

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Gretch, he didnt show up, the bugger!! Ok, here go, i am posting a new thread now.. read it and enjoy! wael

POST 4Original post

Maybe for force fed cars ie turbo'd ones that need less restriction to gain more noticeable power but NA engines benefits would be neglible if any. Read a import magazine where they tested several exhausts systems on same car and did a cat-back bypass(no exhaust) and results were very small(matter of 1-2 hp). Mite sound better though. Regards. Mike. Mite be different for full spec racing engines though.

POST 5Original post

Yeah there are cat bypass pipes available. Fabspeed makes some, but the website doesn't have much info on the 996 ones: http://www.fabspeed.com/catbypass.html Without regulations, I would certainly like to hear the cat AND muffler bypassed! I wonder if you can also run much shorter exhaust length by not crossing the pipes. I assume they are crossed like that so that they heat each other's cats up, but I may be wrong.
