Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

The Conti's cupped a bit by 7000 miles which causes an unbearable droning--which led to my entire suspension being removed, re-torqued and aligned to factory spec under warranty...I put a nail through one and changed all four, problem solved.

You will find that some VERY expensive factory interior and exterior option packages add little to used prices.

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

hello,
first is the 1999 911c2 refered to as a 996? anywa, is this a good deal..1999 911 coupe 2 7400 miles for 49,000 from a reputable dealer..guards red, 18 inch wheels..partial leather..lets be honest, its not loaded, but its a 911..
is 7100 almost considerred brand spanking new?
secondly, will this car last for 150,000 miles if taken care of..
please help, i am going crazy here..was 1999 a good year for these cars..i love the look, even though the fron looks like a boxster , i dont care..i love this look..
thx to all
eric
Price sounds fair (IMHO).
I would still do the following:
Find the month of manufacture (on the door sticker). Early production cars had a number of TSBs to fix little things -- later cars had them incorporated.
Find out from a Porsche dealer (using the VIN) what updates, TSBs have and have not been preformed.
Run a CarFax to make sure the car was never wrecked, flood damaged, etc.
If you are not familiar with 996s then have a reputable mechanic that is look it over and drive it.
I have read that any build after 4/99 is a good one, 7/99 i think being the last one before MY 2000.
I have also read that there are many more 99s out there than 00s or other model years as they started making them earlier in 98 than usual as they dropped the 993.
Its a buyers market, take your time and look around for the right car. The wrong one will cost you dearly.
I found my 99 cab tip (7/99 build) with 11k miles for $57.5k. 2 months ago it was advertised at $65k. Its a tough economy and there are many sellers so finding the perfect car at the perfect price should not be that hard. I had no less than 5 or 6 cabs to pick from, with most sellers, even dealers, dropping prices like crazy.
Welcome Serpico. You said something in your post that caught my attention. Will the car last for 150,000 miles. I don't know tht translates into time, but if you're going to keep the car for awhile here's how I would go about it.
1. Price range...if you're going to "amortize" this cost over a period of years, you probably don't need to sacrifice on the options you may want.
2. Read up on the marque and options offered for that year and select them as well as color, etc. as if you were going to buy a new car.
3. Look for that car. There have to be thousands of 99's for sale..
Of course, this is assuming you have time and you don't let your heart get in front of your head (like I've done before)
Lastly take heed at what Loren and Art mentioned.
Good luck and don't forget to send us all pics when you finally get your P-car.

I have a 2/98 build and am still running the original rear main seal and coolant expansion tank. That is not to say that I would not have future problems, but that is what the extended warranty is for. The PO did have the airbag issue and assorted rattles but that was taken care of early in life. Not all the early builds were problem cars.
I would say 7400 miles would be pretty much brand new and the price seems fair. However, I would be a bit concerned with the low milage b/c you know it has sat for a while. Lack of use can cause seals to become brittle.
Frankly that car will probably still get a little quicker, they ship with really tight motors. Even with such little wear, I would not pay that price for a '99 right now unless there is still time left on the factory warranty. There are a few possible faults that could be pretty costly on your dime, but not a big deal in terms of down time.
I bought mine 7-98 and have had a new main seal, plus the small upgrades such as the rear window fastener and clutch return spring noise fixes.
The only really frustrating problems are the low radiator lines (changed twice! and no, you cannot do this properly at home), and the original Continentals. The Conti's cupped a bit by 7000 miles which causes an unbearable droning--which led to my entire suspension being removed, re-torqued and aligned to factory spec under warranty...I put a nail through one and changed all four, problem solved. Awareness of that issue is much higher nowadays.
The car you are looking at sounds like a good one, but I would look at a few other cars as mentioned earlier. You will find that some VERY expensive factory interior and exterior option packages add little to used prices.
My mechanic is seeing a few cars getting up into the 70,000 mile range with no durability issues.
