Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I am new to this board, I just bought a 2003 C4S Seal Grey w/ black full leather. Absolutely love it. Has anyone done any engine mods to the vehicle, its alot of fun, but wish it had a little more in it. I got the following options: Navigation, Xenons, Aluminum Package, Wheel Caps, Heated Seats, Bose, CD Changer, Sport Exhaust System and Tips, All Dev. Stitching. Pretty much every option. Has anyone done any aerodynamic work? Any input would be appreciated. Thanks.

POST 2Original post

Welcome to the board. Sounds like you have one cool Porsche. How about some pics? Not much more you can do to the C4S engine. You can probably gain some HP and torque with aftermarket mods, but there will be a trade off on reliability. IMHO, you don't need any more from the engine. I've been tracking mine, and I've pretty much bested ANY stock car out there. As far as aerodyamics, you can use anything that will fit a turbo. Techart, RUF, to name two. Again, IMHO, these will be purely cosmetic, and you will trade off some performance for them. The front of the C4S is modified fom the turbo, and the resultant overall coefficient of friction is lower than the turbo. Going for these turbo aerokits will raise your CF, for downforce you don't need. Unless, of course, you go all out with racing mods and what-not. One mod that seems worthwhile to me has to do with suspension. Coilovers or the soon to be available X74. They lower your car for a meaner look, as well as improve track performance. Trade of is street driveability. I don't believe I've maxed out my suspension yet, but I like the lower look. Not so sure I like the thought of needing to crab the car sideways over curbs just to get into a driveway, though. Bottom line, I think the C4S is pretty darn near perfect the way it is. If you want something more, go for another car. Like a TT or a GT2. Again, there will be trade offs, money being the biggest one. As always, that's IMHO.

POST 3Original post

Welcome to the Forum. Great ride. With that setup you HAVE to post pics soon!

POST 4Original post

Welcome! Always glad to have another C4S aboard! Enjoy your new pride and joy as we have and it'll be nothing but grins!

POST 5Original post

03-C4S welcome aboard. Palting, special request ??? Can you take a picture of your C4S before and after you decide on lowering the suspension, lets see the difference when you decide on it. Thanks fadz - C4S

POST 6Original post

For upgrades, you might want to check AutoThority.com. They are Porsche experts in my opinion and do a lot of great work, but I do not have first-hand experience with them. They have ECU upgrades, headers, etc.

POST 7Original post

Welcome Aboard 03-C4S: Great ride you got there, post some pics soon, we would love to see your ride. I wish the C4S was available when we ordered our C2 in 5/2000. If you are thinking about engine mods, I would just step up to a 996TT, otherwise IMHO, C2 and C4S are quick enough. Bocky '02 Carrera C2 coupe (son's) Delivered 9/01 (waited 16 months)

No doubt Palting Thanks & Regards fadz <img src="graemlins/r.gif" border="0" alt="[king]" />

POST 10Original post

Palting, you were talking about lowering the suspension, of your C4S. How many inches would you think the lowering will be? fadz C4S/02

POST 11Original post

Fadi, The X74 reportedly lowers the car a total of 30 mm from standard. The C4S is already 10 mm lower, so I assume the X74 will lower it 20 mm from its current ride height for a total of 30 mm from standard. One necessary option will be the sump guard plate. I say it's necessary since this additional option is mentioned together with the suspension at the Porsche site. Doing mods is a slippery slope. Get R compounds, then need the lower suspension, then need alignment changes to take advantage of the R compounds and lower suspension, which then makes you need better brakes to stop the whole package, then need GT3 seats to keep you from sliding around due to the higher G's, then need 5 or 6 point harness to keep you from slamming into the steering wheel, then need the harness bar or roll cage to anchor the harness.........wonder what's good for a trailer and tow vehicle? The good news is the P-cars, the C4S in particular, have such a high level of performance right out of the dealer showroom that none of the mods are true necessities. In the different DE schools I've been to, this bone stock C4S has been the fastest in the blue group (green-blue-red),and the fastest in 2nd run group (1 to 4). Next season, I'm going for the red group or the 3rd run group depending on how they split us up. If I get my butt handed to me, and my instructor thinks I'm already doing everything I should be doing, and if I still want to go faster, then I may go down that slippery slope.

All US 996 variants, except the GT2, are 10 mm higher in front than a standard ROW 996. As such, US cars will be 40 mm lower in front and 30 mm lower at rear with the X74 suspension. Keep in mind that all these dimensions are given with a tolerance of 10 mm.
