Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Porsche does offer a one year warranty 'extension' for used cars bought from a dealership.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I'm sure this discussion has been brought up in the past but I am new to rennlist and have not seen it lately. I have a 1999 996 with 25,000 on the clock. Bought it used. Car is in outstanding condition. Has had some minor service problems. My question is What do you folks think about purchasing an extended warrenty?? Are they really worth the cash?? My warrenty runs out in May 2003 so I have plenty of time to think about it. I also hear the cost is quite high?
Thank you.
I purchased the extended warranty for my 2/98 build 996. I bought through Warrenty Direct. I have had no warrenty claims so I have yet to deal with them, hope that part goes well. I have heard of several others having good luck with Warrenty Gold.
It is cheaper to purchase the extended warranty before the factory one expires. You have some time so do some research.

Last I heard, Porsche does not offer an extended warranty. Dealers do often offer an extended warranty through an independent company. Compare the extended warranty the dealer offers to other sources for extended warranties. I found a much better deal than going through the dealer.
Make sure you read the fine print as far as what is covered, any deductables, and procedure for claims. Some companies have a list of what they cover, others cover everything with a list of exclusions (easier to read IMO).
Checked with the local Porsche dealer here in NE PA and the quote was over $2300.00 for a four year, 75,000 mile. Checked the web for a few and they are much cheaper. Guess I need to look at the fine print before making a decision. Question: When you purchase a warranty do you have to take it to an authorized Porsche dealer? I have a local European shop that does excellent work but is not affiliated with PNA and is much closer to home than the Porsche dealers in the area. I would like to continue having my service done at this shop. Thanks to all who provided feedback. This site is the best for obtaining Porsche information.
