Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi bel!
i would like to have choices like this,
It depends what you want to do with. If you're looking for: daily driver, track, reliability ,look etc, go for the TT.
Then if you want to use it only the weekends, just a few tracks(?),garage queen, look ,show car, and you're ready to spend a few bucks in services (quite expensive)... then go for the F360!
.
( Also the time to order a 360 is quite long, and Ferrari Inc can choose if you deserve this car or not.)
So then if you can buy both of them would be better!
good luck.
Although people lump these cars together they really are quite different. The 996TT is more reliable although the 360 has been pretty damn good on this count. The TT is much cheaper to maintain, much more easily used as a daily driver, and faster on the track with the less than professional driver.
That being said, the 360 has better handling in the sense of its feedback to the driver and has less understeer. It feels more like a race car and the 996TT feels more like a GT(no flames please, I own a 996TT). The analogy I use is the TT is a large broadsword and the 360 is a rapier, both are effective but different. The 360 also has an engine sound that makes grown men weep. The fit and finish is also better on the Ferrari. It feels that is was finely crafted by artisans in Italy. As far as exterior design, well it tough to beat any Ferrari.
I live 5 hours away from a Ferrari dealership so the decision was easy for me. Also, I wanted something to drive daily and on long trips as well as take to the track. My 2001 996TT has been dead reliable with 14000 miles and has had two oil changes and a set of brake pads and a set of rear tires. I love it more every day and it still impresses me with the fact that I can take it to the track, drive it home, wash it and it looks and drives new again.
Either way you will win.
Both cars are fairly amazing for driving fast on the street. The 996TT is also good for mundane transportation, not a small achievement in such a brutally fast car. The 360 is better for emotion and sensation, clearly, plus the materials are higher grade.
The difference in maintenance is non-trivial. A friend of mine paid $9000 for the 30,000 mile service on the 360. I just did that one early on my 996 for $800 including new coolant and brake fluid.
So get the 360 Spider. While alive, live.
Guys,
Thanks for the feedback, both cars wil be second hand. Only the prices here in Belgium are almost the same for a 2000 model. (96k Euro for the TT and 100K Euro for the F360). I just used it for the weekends (German Highways) and some track.
Not more than 10K km a year(service should be 2K a year)
GT2 is +155K.

$9,000 for the 30K on the 360??? That's just insane, and far more than the same service on a 355. Was there something wrong with the car that required more work than just the service, or is that the going rate?
No doubt F360 if money is not a problem for you. For those who think 996TT can be use as daily driver, must never own one or drive one for more than 30mins on the road. I live in Los Angeles area and there's no way you can use 996TT as daily driver. The ride is just way too harsh for the $hitty fwy in LA. Also, 996TT is just too common around here. There's 8 996TT around my neighborhood, but only 2 F360s. F cars resale value is also way better than P cars.

LOL. I have 27,500 miles on my 996TT daily driver including a number of 2,000 + mile road trips.
It's a great daily driver and long distance car.

Ahhh, those comments are very revealing.
Are you one of those "cars as jewelry" type of folks who is more concerned about impressing the neighbors rather than driving your car?
F360 are gorgeous cars with an unbelievable exhaust note. I wish I could have both, but until that time, I get by because I spend time on the track with the local Ferarri club.
At least I get to look and listen to them...
topdaytrader,
Do you own a 996tt?
You say it cannot be used as a daily driver?
My 996tt is my daily driver and has been for quite some time now. Also, I live in New York! The roads here are horrible and the tt is holding up incredibly.
Don't know where you got your information.
Well my old 4S WAS a daily driver (same suspension as the TT) and I loved it! I cannot fathom driving to work in anything else.
You said you're not thinking of using either choice for a daily driver, that's fine. But consider the TT as more amenable to daily driving than the 360.

Anyone who says TT can not be used as a daily driver (especially because it's too harsh!) is a total sissy in my books.
I'm sorry topdaytrader if I'm offending you somehow, but that's just a fact.
Considering that the 360 is holding, if not appreciating in value,3-4 years down the line it is clearly the best value for the $$.Factor in the
fun factor, and it's a bargain.
Perry
Enjoy. Life is not a dress rehearsal.
[quote] the 360 is holding, if not appreciating in value,3-4 years down the line it is clearly the best value for the $$

"value" is pretty subjective there....take that TT and throw $15-20K at power & suspension and the result is an incredible 'daily', that's a hoot to drive & makes the 360 look like it's standing still (on the road or on the track).
Now if you are buying it for re-sale (rather than yourself
) the 360 is probably a good investment, and a better choice. Aside from that, appearance, handling, practicality, dependability, are all personal trade-offs you'll have to wrestle with.....Good luck to ya.
Don't kid yourself about a series production Ferrari being a good investment any time soon, unless you are absolutely certain they will screw up the following model somehow.
They cost a lot of money to own, especially if driven frequently. That is not to say the depreciation in percent will be relatively high, I would agree it will most likely be lower than average. But they will keep making them until the demand--always quite limited for mid-engine cars in units worldwide--is satisfied.

I respectfully disagree, given that I am seriously looking at a 360 Modena, and have done some research. 360 Modena prices have fallen drastically in the last year. MY99 Coupe six-speeds that used to sell for $155 six months ago have fallen to $125 - $130 will similar price declines across the board. Contributing to the price decline are (1) the overall economy, (2) the flood of European imports, and (3) the larger number of 360's that Ferrari is producing. I don't know what the value will be in three to fours years, but I know the 360 is not holding its value now.

Well said. They
do
cost a lot to maintain, regardless of how much you drive them. So thinking purely with the head, the 996TT seems to be the more logical, less expensive car to go for. Unfortunately, when it comes to exotics, rarely are decisions made with (just the) head. For me, little compares to the aesthetic appeal and exhaust note of the 360, which is why, I look forward to it being my next car.
I wish you well in your decision-making process, and look forward to you posting pics when you get your new baby -- whichever one that happens to be.
An couple of images that help me plead my case:

Regards.

Yes, I do own a 01 996tt.
If you don't put avg at least 50 miles a day, then you don't qualify saying that you use your 996TT as daily driver.
I never said Turbo can't be use for daily driver. You can even use Murcielago as daily driver if you want. You need to be more mature than that.

You're right about price declines with respect to 360 coupes, but the 360 spiders are still holding their value. Prices are declining for both, but the demand for spiders is still there. New 360 spiders are selling at $240-250k and new 360 coupes are selling for around $180k. This tells you about the demand for both: people want spiders, not coupes. So it's a good time to get a coupe. I don't think prices will fall much further from here. Euro 360 coupes '00 with 5k miles can be had for as little as $110k already EPA/DOT approved. And given that 355's are still selling for $110k+, I can't imagine prices for 360's dropping *that* much further. Now it becomes a function of how much warranty is left and how many miles the car has. You'll see some US '99 coupes sell for cheap, because A) they're out of warranty now and B) their mileage is close to a service mileage point, ie. ~15k, 30k, etc.
1. The overall economy does suck, but it doesn't really affect people who buy Ferraris. Most are cash buyers and don't finance these cars. I haven't had much trouble selling mine.
2. Any euro 360's after '01 can't be imported into the US anymore and legally converted, so there's no glut of euro imports coming in anymore.
3. I could be wrong, but I thought Ferrari was producing -less- 360's next year.
DAILY DRIVER -- what does it really mean?
To me, it has nothing to do with the ride. I say that because my body can spend all day in my GT2, so for me it qualifies. I know people who can't spend more than 10 minutes in any sportscar -- so for them it doesn't.
Thus it comes down to reliability. I think Porsche has the clear edge here. I don't know too many Ferrari friends who would depend on their car for a commute every day over the course of a year.
[Caveat: Ferraris are getting better and I'm worried P-cars may be slipping. Still think P wins hands down though]
I saw a silver 996TT today in the same parking lot as a red 360 Modena. I couldn't stop looking at the Ferrari. It is a stunning car.
Price no object, I'd have to go for the Ferrari. I suspect that the Ferrari would be fast enough for me, and a few years from now when new cars are setting ever higher performance standards, the Ferrari will still be a beautiful and sensuous machine.

First of all, daily driver = a car used to commute to and fro everyday, not a car that is driven >50 miles a day.
Second of all, my commute is a total of 100 miles everyday. So by your standard (which I might add is incredibly ridiculous), I more than qualify.
Third of all, NY roads are more harsh than LA roads. The turbo drives flawlessly driven daily.
And last but not least, the Murcielago would not hold up as a daily driver in poor weather conditions and stop and go traffic.

LoL, you gotta be more mature than that. Looks like you spend all your life savings on your TT. Sad man.
If you are looking for performance and TURBOS
then go for the Porsche, the TT has better acceleration and much more power, it has very good handling. If you want just looks looks and more looks, go for the 360, The TT is gorgeous, but the 911 body style is quite common and everyone knows what it looks like, the 360 on the other hand is a new style. PLus the 360 has better handling due to it's mid engine setup. It's up to you. In this case, I would go for the Ferrari.
The "value" on the 360 assumes you buy one new at list. 140 K for the coupe 160 K for the spyder. Around here they stopped even taking deposits 2 years ago.Perry

Wow, please go back and read all of your replies. Perhaps you were under the underfluence of hallucinogens while posting?
FWIW, I was schooled at Harvard University with a dual major in political science and economics.
Please refrain from making any comments about my mother, it is both childish and disrespectful.
It is obvious that you are sub-normal and have a few issues to work out. Do not take your anger out on me.

Is it possible that topdaytrader isn't who he says? Pete tends to point out his inconsistencies best. His post about commuting in a tt is ridiculous, and suggests he hasn't tried it. My commute is 60 miles a day, on our snow-ravaged, truck-ravaged northwest Indiana roads, and I think my ttx50 is perfectly comfortable. In fact, it's softer than my 90, 94, and 96 Toyota Landcruisers, 80, 90, and 91 Porsches (all previous), and is at least the equal of my BMW 850CSI. I'm guessing the poster-in-question is not an owner. Welcome to the internet. I guess this board is not immune. AS
Hello Turbo people.
Why couldn't you just spend 4k on a lift and do all the ferarri work yourself?
Aren't there great places for good prices on Ferarri parts? A timing belt change probably requires engine dropping (not unusual if you deal with 911s, right?).
A belt, a few tensioner pieces, and some know-how.
NOT 9k.
Just remember that there are people out there that think the upkeep on a Porsche is just to expensive to own one
Isn't it a great time to be a car nut!!Look at all the wonderful machinery that is now available. We are in the "platinum" age of sports cars; in every price range too
I have a 360 spider on order ( 2 years thus far ) and bought my 996 tt x50 as a "stop gap" car. It has turned out to be one of the best cars I have had. Amazing power , exclusivity ( at least in the part of Canada I live in) and a certain degree of stealth!
I originally had no intention of keeping the tt ,but I must say that it is phenomanal; and is a great daily rocket ride! When my 360 comes in I just may have to explore the boundaries of my bugetary constraints.
