Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

5 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Anybody do any "major" upgrades to their audio system? I was having an intermittent problem with the left channel that the dealer couldn't fix. It only happened on weekends (afternoons) when the top was down and only when I played really good music.

POST 2Original post

I had my entire system replaced by a local shop. The upgrades inlcude a Sony headunit (not so great), 5 channel JL Audio amp, 3 way JL Audio components (6.5" mounted in the door with 4" and tweeter in dash), 4" coaxial for rear fill (not needed), and two JL 8w0 subs in a custom enclosure behind the rear seats. Sounds excellent IMHO. Sub enclosre is friction fit behind the rear seats. JL Audio 5 channel amp flush mounted in boot.

POST 3Original post

I choose the same basic configuration as Sloth (6" woofer in door, 4" mids & silk dome tweeters on dash, rear 3-way coaxials, powered all by one 400RMS watt Amp in trunk) except I kept the PCM's stereo with navigation and cellular, and used two 10" subwoofers in a custom fiberglas & MDF-wood sealed enclosure covered by matching leather behind the seats. Sounds really balanced with great acustic image

POST 5Original post

Look through the post "Looking to upgrade stereo in 996 - any suggestions ?" - 07-29-02 in this forum (996 Forum). Some discussion on placement of subwoofer in Cabriolets vs. Coupes!!! MM
