Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

But my particular problem was definitely related to a fuel quality issue.
Leading evidence: 'definitely related' (1 discussions report identifying this cause; no attributable repair resolution). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'definitely related' (1 discussions; 1 report identifying it and 0 suggest it). Mine idled rough once following gas fill-up at a rather unsavory filling station.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

So, I went down to the local Chevron and bought a bottle of Techron fuel additive and a full tank of gas...problem solved, has yet to return.
I have "01 996 that I got new (980 miles) in 8/02 and I have noticed a rough idle, where the RPM's will vary 50 or so and you can definitely feel the slight tremor through the seats. It will do it hot or cold, ac load or not. The Pioneer center dealer in San Diego could not find any fault codes, etc. I am going to get a 2nd opinion and I saw an ealier post of about 2 months ago here, of people having the same problem. I would like to know if they have been able to resolve the problem and how, so that I can perhaps relay this information to the service manager. Thanks
My old one had the low/rough idle, usually cold.
When I dumped it there was still no fix.
Service guy said Porsche is still working on some computer program update.
I dunno, ask your dealer to call PCNA maybe...see if the fix is being worked on or not.
Mine idled rough once following gas fill-up at a rather unsavory filling station. The car would surge upon startup and idle rough for a few minutes. Dealer subsequently found no fault codes. I deduced it must have been "bad gas". So, I went down to the local Chevron and bought a bottle of Techron fuel additive and a full tank of gas...problem solved, has yet to return. A lot of people don't realize the extreme variability in gas quality from station to station so this should always be in your differential diagnosis. Also note that you can buy the Techron additive from any Chevron station, I have seen it advertised for a higher mail order price in some magazines. Worth a try, can't hurt and might help.
Also ,FWIW my car had a "campaign" to upgrade the DME with a quick software upgrade right after all this happened, so that helped as well. But my particular problem was definitely related to a fuel quality issue.
