Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Does anybody know if the 2003 smaller rear painted bumperettes can directly replace the 2001 or sooner big black and ugly ones?

POST 2Original post

No. Totally different bumper and different shape bumperette. The entire rear bumper would need to be changed, but the 2002 and 2003 rear cover will fit onto a 2001 and earlier.

POST 3Original post

Send your bumperettes to Eric.

POST 4Original post

Definitely send them to Eric. You won't be disappointed. Well worth the money. (he even put a picture of my painted bumperettes on the website; Lapis Blue Turbo)

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks for the responses guys. I may just have my local body shop do them, or send to Eric.

POST 6Original post

Eric will do a better job...his people know the right paint to use for soft stuff!

POST 7Original post

I agree with Don. You need to properly prepare/clean the surfaces and add a flex additive to the paint in order to ensure proper adhesion and flexibility. Met someone at a DE event who had them painted by a body shop and they were already developing small cracks. Needless to say, he wasn't too happy! They will look great, no doubt

POST 8Original post

Yeah, I'm your man for that. We prep the rubber in a special way, and there are several stages of sealants and preparation to get the rubber to a point where it will accept paint. If this is not done in the first few stages, the paint will 'release' and begin cracking and peeling. We finish with the same 14-stage finish as the bumper plugs, with significant additives for flexibility. Not to say a decent smash to the rear won't mess them up (as it would the bumper too), but the finish should last without problems. Any questions? Answers
