Read evidence and context
Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

A guy I run with drives a 996 in POC here on the west coast.
Leading evidence: 'Run with drives a 996 in poc here' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is '993 owner who wants' (1 discussions; 0 report identifying it and 1 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Run pretty hard in the "blue" group' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Suspected cause
Probably a 993 owner who wants to keep the 993 resales high so he can buy a 996

Suggestion
Never seen anyone else have major issues, but have heard of 02's blowing smoke on start after hard run {but never seen it happen}.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

For those who tracked their 996's anyone had major blowups ie tranny/suspension or other stuff that caused car to be towed back home and all. Have you seen that happen or has that happened to you?Over on the 993 board someone who tracks alot in a 993 saw like 10 996's(not at one time) having tranny's blow or suspension problems occur. That seems high. Regards. Mike

Never seen it. Track the car 12 to 15 week-ends per year.
had mine towed twice in as many days, the same problem... belt tensioner pully bolt broke.
I've never had so much as a puff of smoke, rattle or even brake fade {but I always bleed and keep pads pretty fat}. That's running pretty hard in the "blue" group. One of the main seals went, but that was before it ever saw a track! Never seen anyone else have major issues, but have heard of 02's blowing smoke on start after hard run {but never seen it happen}. Also, in Red group have heard of one 996 with brake fade, but pads were pretty worn and not sure he did religious bleeding.
I've been tracking my car for about two years now and I have never seen or heard of a major drivetrain breakage in a 996. I think the percieved "weakness" of the 996 may be an urban legend perpetuated on anecdotal stories and internet gossip. I bet if you looked at actual data of all the 911 variants that are tracked, the drivetrain failure rate will be the same for all 911s. Think about it, there are a lot of 996s being tracked around the country, if they were really breaking right and left you would hear about it.
A guy I run with drives a 996 in POC here on the west coast. He is on his third engine, and second transmission. I know at least one of the engines was a missed shift, not sure about the second one. No idea what happened with the tranny.

Nonsense. Probably a 993 owner who wants to keep the 993 resales high so he can buy a 996
About the guy with his 3rd engine and 2nd tranny-would you let him drive your car? On other hand he must love the car that much to go thru the hassle of fixing it
. Regards. Mike
