Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi all; I have a Boxster, but am expecting a second child (well my wife is actually) so it's time to upgrade to a 4 seater. (my idea of a four seater, not my wife's) Anyway, can anyone comment on the room in the back of a Cab versus a Carrera? I'd love to take all four of us four a drive, but I've heard that it's hard to fit a rear facing baby seat in the back of a Cab. Do they fit better in the Carrera? (Because of the roof, I've heard there is a little less room in the back seat of a Cab. Is that true?) I have both the Porsche infant seat and the Porsche Toddler seat from my Boxster, that I'll keep for the 996. I'm having trouble deciding between the two cars, and while this is certainly not the only consideration, it is one consideration. Any comments or direct experience welcome. Thanks! James

POST 2Original post

If you plan on using the child seat placed backwards in the front pass. seat make sure that the airbag is disengaged!!! It would sort of serve it's opposite purpose in a crash otherwise.

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Ah, yes, of course I'll have the babysafe installation done. I had that done on the Boxster as well. Although it's almost funny how many mean stares I get from people when they see my 3 year old in the front seat of the Boxster. They don't know that the baby seat turns off the airbag and think I'm a terrible Dad. I even had one lady go off on me as I was dropping my child off at the day care. Even after I told her about the air bag being turned off by the baby seat, she was still livid. Very funny. Have a great rest of the weekend, James

POST 4Original post

Make sure to keep the airbag lockout device from the Boxster, it cannot be purchased separately from the baby seats! Can't help with your cab question, I can only say that the coupe works extremely well with a forward-facing seat in the back. It puts the baby immediately aft of the door seam, so there is no ducking or cortortions at all in or out.

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks Nick! I hadn't thought of that!

POST 6Original post

The backs of the back seats in the cab angle forward slightly, the base is the same as the coupe. This should not affect how the baby seat installs.

POST 7Original post

I commend you for switching to a 2+2 instead of trading in for a SUV (via No #2 child)

POST 8Original post

I can't remember how soon my son's seat was switched from rear facing to regular-facing; but it doesn't seem like it was a whole lot of time. I don't think it would be long enough for me to make it the deciding factor between a cab or coupe unless you replace your cars every year or two.

POST 9Original post

I have a C4 cab. We removed the seat cushion from the rear and the seat fit in fine! We actually were able to use the wind deflector with the top down and the baby was great!! He's in a forward fitting seat now that he's 9 months. This is our fifth child. The kids LOVE the back seats in the Porsche when we only need to take them two at a time. The booster with the child cutoff is in the front when the wifey isn't with me (or she decides its her turn to take the p-car!!) I have received various stare from having the kids in the front also... hey whatcha gonna do people are people...

POST 10Original post

I've had the Porsche Zoom seat in a 99 Boxster and in my current 01 C2 cab. If the child is big enough I'd highly reccomend this seat. The child faces forward and the lockout device diable the airbag when the child is buckled in. The Zoom seat can accomodate a growing child (it adjusts both in width and height) and it has nice little headreat "wings" that keep juniors head up if he nods off.

POST 11 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Wow, thanks for all the great feedback folks! Dranon, I did have a follow-up question for you; Was taking the cushion off the back seat something you did yourself? Or does that need to be done at the shop? If you did it yourself, can it be taken on and off quickly? As for trading in the Boxster for a 2+2, YES, I'm glad I'm going that route. At first I thought I'd keep the Boxster and get a third vehicle, but I enjoy driving my Porsche everyday, so it's hard to imagine having to spend time in some big lumbering vechicle, every time I want to take both kids somewhere. I'm glad I thought of the trade in idea! Take care everyone,

POST 12Original post

The seat section is just velcro. Grab from the middle and just tug and it comes off. The back rest is more work and is NOT easy to just remove and put back in. Better to remove and then put it back when you atre ready to put it back in for good!
