Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

5 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Picked up my 1999 C2 Cab Tip on Saturday. Though the weather sucked here in the NE, it was still a joy to drive. A couple of notes to compare to my 1988 928 S4. The S4 had about 20 more horses and 50 more lb/ft of torque, and I can't say I even noticed the difference. I think a big factor is how well the Tiptronic trans works compared to the old slushbox in my S4. Shifts are quick and crisp and the tranny adapts pretty well to how you are driving in auto mode. In manual mode its a pure joy. The car holds the road like its on rails. Its got 18" rims and seems to make the ride alot harder than the 16" rims on my old S4. Now a few questions? 1. Do all 99s have traction control? I didnt see the button to engange disengage on my dash, so I assume no. 2. what weight oil are you guys using? the new 0-40? I will be doing my own oil changes. here are some pics from the dealers floor 996 photos

POST 2Original post

Great looking ride Art. Color combo is classic. The TipS tranny is the greatest. And I actually think the 4 spoke steering wheel has a more "balanced" look to it than the newer 3 spoke. Did you get the hardtop with the car for our NE winter snow, sludge, salt, sand mix?

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

oh yes, the hard top and stand were part of the deal. I had the dealer put it on Saturday for the drive home. Unless there is a big warming spell to last for a few days the hard top is staying on till Feb at least. Now I know why cab sales are horrible in the winter, i want to take that top off and drive drive drive! Art

POST 5Original post

Congrats on your 996! I've got the same car ...as far as traction control is concerned, it you don't have a button, it may be safe to say that your car doesn't have TC. A way to check is to mash the gas and see if you get wheel spin and a blinking light under your gauges. Enjoy your new car!
