Since most cars that could use these parts are under warranty, it would seem that there are no buyers for such parts.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I am expecting my 03 c4s to be delivered in January and am "contemplating" getting Ruf wheels, Ruf Exhaust, Ruf Stainless sport tips, Ruf Pedals, etc.. If I do this Ruf upgrade, I will have the factory wheels, sport exhaust and whatver else I decide to upgrade lying around. The Ruf dealer does not want the factory parts. What does one do with the extra factory parts? Since most cars that could use these parts are under warranty, it would seem that there are no buyers for such parts. Would listing them on eBay be a waste of time? It seems like such a waste to have new parts lying around. I am not into throwing good things away needlessly and that is why I am only "contemplating" the Ruf upgrades. Does anyone have suggestions on what I should do with those extra parts if I opt for the Ruf upgrades? The Ruf salesman has been pushing the 19" wheels. Does it make a difference whether one has 18" or 19" wheels. If I go with the 19" wheels, I have to buy new tires too and will have an extra set of tires lying around! What do you all think of the Ruf parts? Worthwhile expense or just fluff? Thanks.

POST 2Original post

I would put them on Rennlist classifieds first, then eBay. If you don't want them lying around. You may want to keep the 18" wheel/tires for something or other and things like the rubber pedals so you can save the $600 RUF pedals for eBay when you sell the C4S for your new 997 I certainly wouldn't just heave them. I kept my stock mufflers on my 90 C2 Cab that had Fabspeeds on them, and the person who bought the car didn't want the louder sound, so it helped sell the car. You never know!

POST 3Original post

Wilam, Sounds like you're going to have quite a nice machine with the Ruf upgrades. I have been using the Ruf exhaust for about 6 months, and my car is a daily driver. The quality and workmanship are top notch as one would expect from Ruf- as well as the price$$ .The exhaust sounds good, like an air cooled car at idle and akin to a GT3 or 911RS at full throttle. This is a very aggressive sounding exhaust, the best I've heard on a 996 including factory Sport exhaust and fabs- I have friends with both setups. Ultimately you have to decide for yourself what sounds good. I can tell you there is no droning or resonance and highway cruising is great- recently did a round trip to Dallas and the exhaust sound in the cabin was just fine at cruising speed. The exhaust was fairly loud when I first installed it , but definitely mellows out after a few miles when the computer "learns" the change. I would keep all my old stuff if I were you in case you want to go back to stock or need it for resale. At least keep the wheels, you can use them for track tires. I learned the hard way about this, I sold my stock 17"s after I bought my 18"s , now I wish I had them back for track tires. You may want to consider the 18" Ruf wheels, IMO these are some of the best looking wheels around and I see Weissach is selling them for $2600 a set. Also think about the Ruf coilover suspension. I take it you're buying from Weissach in Canada, they are a great company to deal with and will go overboard to treat you fairly. Keep us up to date on your project!

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Don: Thanks for your suggestion. I will keep the old parts for th future then. DJ 996: I am pleased to hear that you like your Ruf exhaust so much. I am looking forward to having Weissach upgrade my car. I almost went for the Porsche Sport Exhaust and am glad I did not after reading your post. I hope the Ruf exhaust will not void my warranty?

POST 5Original post

Wilam, I hope you like the Ruf exhaust, but don't just take my word for it, go over to Weissach, since you are in Vancouver, see if they have a set you can hear. Weissach prides themselves on keeping their customers happy-I'll vouch for that. You can hear them at my web site also...here

POST 6Original post

Hi Wilam: did you order your C4S from MCL or from Weissach? Are you planning to install the short-shifter? David Poon

POST 7 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi David, I ordered the c4s from Speedway in Victoria as I got a better deal. As for the Ruf short shifter, I am looking at that but have not decided as I wonder if it will make a difference in day to day Vancouver driving. What do you think? What are the pros and cons? Wilson

POST 8Original post

Weissach put RUF 19 inch wheels on my C4S and I get constant looks and comments on how nice they are, kept my old wheels and tires for whatever the future might bring including resale value of the car with all original parts.

POST 9 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hey Zak, I think your wheels caught my attention also. I saw a car just like yours in the summer parked outside Cioppino and I have been wanting those wheels since. I don't think there are many c4s in Vancouver with those wheels. What kind of tires do you have on those wheels and how do you like them? Wilson (aka "wilam")

POST 10Original post

Wilam, There should be no warranty issues with an exhaust change. There are lots of 911s with aftermarket exhaust systems, most dealers will actually install them. Besides the Ruf piece is a very high end unit, as you would expect.

POST 11Original post

I took these pictures this summer of a car I thought looked great. Are these the Ruf wheels?

POST 12 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

DJ 996: I liked the sound of your RUf Exahust vs, the facotry one. Thanks again for your help. Pete01_996: Those wheels are not what I saw at thee Ruf dealer. They are nice but not a Ruf model that I recognize. I have a picture of the Ruf Wheels and will try to post it here.

POST 16Original post

Hi Wilam, that was indeed my C4S you saw outside Cioppino's, there aren't any other C4S's in town with those wheels. I have Bridgestone SO3's on the car, ran it at the Whistler autocross and DE at Mission, felt very good however I have never really pushed the car with the stock wheels and tires so hard to compare...but I wanted a better compound for the rain (despite the weather in Vancouver this year we do get rain from time to time!). Tires are a bit noisier than stock but, as it is a toy and not a daily driver I am quite happy with that. I really enjoy the whole package, makes the car classier I think without going over the top....I would attach a picture of it but I can't figure out how to do it.

POST 17Original post

Zak, I'd be happy to help post picture, just email me.

POST 18Original post

pete01_996 - the wheels on the black 996 in the pic above look like one of the Gemballa wheels.

POST 24Original post

I too have been considering wheels/exhaust (Zak..are those still 18's?)and shifter for my 02 c4s (also here in Vancouver). I have not yet had the car lowered due to early factory tranny problem, and wondered if you all could feed back on: 1) Does anybody feel "lacking" in power? I have been dissappointed but this could be due my 89'turbo's excellent performance. 2) Is there any way to boost output? I am considering trading up to a turbo but what about the x50 package? Many thanks

POST 25Original post

Ron, the wheels and tires are 19". I don't feel any "lack of power" but then I moved up from a '97 C2 and really enjoy the superior torque and acceleration at all speeds in the new car ('02 C4S)....however the need is always there for yet more..... As for more power, I think I would go for the turbo before I went to the X51 package, that is a lot of money for a retro fit...and the torque and HP curves make me question if I would notice much within the realities of where I drive. There are also chip upgrades but there are trade offs with that as well and I would like to keep my warranty intact.

POST 26Original post

Zak- What make and size tires are you running on the 19" wheels? Car looks awesome!! Thanks

POST 27Original post

Tires are Bridgestone SO3 245/35 front and 285/30 rear, wheels are 19 x8.5 fronta nd 19 x 11 rear
