Well, the car is not perfect if you need to use some kind of crayon to mask a wood trim crack.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Here's a question you can't learn from any diagrams or from Porsche. Before I break this extremely expensive dash trim I hope one of you will know the answer I seek.
Q. On the Center dash surround, the wood is glued on and appears to be applied over the base/stock plastic. The glue is notorious for letting go and allowing this piece to warp and crack. Who knows what the surface under the wood appliance is or looks like?
I purchased a stock replacement 3 piece sections. Looking at my wood piece however, I see the wood on the surround has no seam between the top portion and the side pieces (where tip buttons are). That would suggest the wood is simply applied over the stock plastic.
Who has experienced this? Why go through all the hassle of pulling out the existing if cracking off the wood would reveal the stock plastic underneath? Hate to go that far and find out the underlying Plastic isn't paintable. Could be a candidate for recovering in Leather?
HELP!!!
Very small crack may not warrant all this effort. The perfectionist in me wanted to fix this if fairly simple. I know this is a common issue. If you know the answer please share before I tackle what may be a very difficult project vs leaving it alone, hardly noticeable. .??
Here's what I'm talking about...
Note" No seam over stock base plastic'
Small crack is top right (worth trying to fix or not?) Car is for sale...
"02 996tt 28,000 miles Perfect (except for this little freakin' wood crack!)
Well, perfect except for the small crack in the trim and the missing cigarette lighter.
Unless you are sure you can effect a perfect repair my advice it so leave the wood trim be. Mention it to the buyer of course do not let him see it first but don't make a big thing out of it.
A small crack in wood trim can't or shouldn't over power the reality that the car is in very good shape, has low miles, is a very attractive car, and so on. Make those positive points the focus of your sales pitch and not the small crack in the trim.
A friend who's a restorer also mentioned the furniture crayon and it is a good possibility. Maybe I'm too fussy? The cigarette lighter is in the glove box because I don't smoke and my radar detector plugs in there when needed.
I agree with your point about not making the crack a negative. If I kept the car I could probably ignore it, but to sell it I will at least try to back up my statement that the car is "Perfect"
May have some bits to sell soon depending on the outcome. I have a complete center mount and face and two light wood corner dash air vents. If I put those back on for a buyer then I'll have two Savanna Beige vents.
Well, the car is not perfect if you need to use some kind of crayon to mask a wood trim crack.
The car appears to be in very good condition. That alone will help its sale. Buyers are not afraid of a less than perfect car. They are afraid of a dishonest car. Unless you can restore the wood trim to its factory new condition I'd just leave it alone.
You worry about the crack rendering the car less than perfect. Are you replacing all the tires? The brakes? All the vital fluids? The wipers? You get my drift.
