Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

4 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

hi, I would like to inspect current state of my ims bearing and probably pull off its outer dust seal cover (it`s a non-serviceable bearing), so, if anybody has ever accomplished this task - how high exactly do you need to jack up your car to be able to move gearbox around? is it possible just to 'shift' gearbox aside to get access to ims cover or gearbox should come completely down? or is this task pretty much impossible to accomplish without a lift? I just hate to mess up with mechanic services on this as it will be at least $1k labor charge to pull gearbox down and put it back up.

POST 2Original post

Get an ATV jack and jackstands. However, after dropping a few engines I would recommend at minimum an ATV jack, large blocks of wood (give you a boost on the jack), a regular jack and also a transmission jack. Getting the engine or transmission dropped is the easy part. Getting them to play nice when re-assembling is what will waste a lot of time. First time I did both as a pair with just a regular jack and ATV. Next I used only the basic jack for transmission only. The reassembly on the transmission only took 2-3 hours due to angling etc.

POST 3Original post

I did it. I am not sure exactly how high. I had a post about it on here called "going in alone" But I had to delete a lot of the pix because they down graded my membership. The below pix is exactly how the car was when I removed it. I had less than 1/4" to spare I brought it out the side
