Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Reported cause
My last little problem was the plastic hook cover which I replaced last year was wobbling about.
Leading evidence: 'plastic hook cover' (1 discussions report identifying this cause; no attributable repair resolution). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'plastic hook cover' (1 discussions; 1 report identifying it and 0 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Check battery' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

They replaced the e-brake switch, not the solution.

Suggestion
BTW you have to have a completely full battery for the top to work correctly anyway so check the battery before anything else.

Do you have any suggestions on trouble shooting this issue other than replacing every switch (ignition switch was going to be next in line)?

They then attempted to replace the hook latch motor/switch (above the mirror), after telling me that it would be north of $1500, I asked them to put the top in the down position manually and call it a day.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Well after a few years of intermittent problems with the cab top it finally quit full time. I brought it to my friendly non-dealer mechanic who told me hydrolic fluid was full, and tht it was definitely an electronic problem, and that the dealer would have a diagnostic tool to tell which switch needed to be replaced.
The dealer said they did not have such a device (can't believe this). They replaced the e-brake switch, not the solution. They then attempted to replace the hook latch motor/switch (above the mirror), after telling me that it would be north of $1500, I asked them to put the top in the down position manually and call it a day.
Do you have any suggestions on trouble shooting this issue other than replacing every switch (ignition switch was going to be next in line)? Thanks in advance. Andy T
I never used the key in the door. Just assumed if it didn't operate with the button on the dash it was a dead issue. Do you have an idea on how the key in the door might work if the button on the dash doesn't?
Thanks for any help in advance.
Andy
PIWIS at the dealer should tell them which micro switch isn't functioning. They need to run the calibration sequence and watch the switches trigger in order.
Try it from the door first. If the top is stuck in the closed or up then turn the key and hold it to the left in the drivers door. First all windows go down and then the top should come down. Then the side windows start to come up again but not the rear ones. The cycle is then complete. BTW you have to have a completely full battery for the top to work correctly anyway so check the battery before anything else. You might want to check that the plastic cover is still in tacked around the latch hook which goes into the center of the wind shield. That pushes on a micro switch which completes the 5 checks before the top will function. If you can get the top into half up half down position, a check to see that all mechanical linkages are still in place by removing the pop off hood wires at the back under the back screen. I found one of mine off and a simple clip washer cleared the problem. I believe that once the top has been moved manually (which I NOW see yours has) then you have to have it re set at the Porsche dealer anyway so you are in a vicious circle right now (so to speak). These cab tops can be a P I T A. Temperamental bastards to say the least. If you can hear clicking going on as you push the dash button and you see the red cab top light flashing on the dash then there is nothing wrong with your ignition switch. You did take it to a Porsche garage didn't you? They are the only ones with the correct diagnostic tools to search out the faulty micro switches. I think you will need to visit them for them to get the hood functioning correctly after it was moved manually. Hey BUT NOT SURE on that score. Raise the side door windows half way and try the dash button again. Sometimes that worked for me. Then it would stick in the closed position. Then the next time I tried it, it would work OK. God they are a pain. Here you are, yesterday I went to Costco, the top would not come up (First time this year BTW) result, no shopping, rain was in the air, had to drive home quickly.. tried it in the garage and it came up... Pissed me off. haha. Hope you sort things out.
Thanks for the help. No idea why the following worked but it did. I put the key into the door lock (thanks Barlowdo and Hurdigurdiman) turned to the left for 3 secs, right for 3 secs. Then I pressed the key fob twice, which locked and unlocked the car. I then got in, with the ebrake engaged, reved the engine just a small amount (above 2000rpms) and pushed the convertible top button.....and the top started coming up...It was a beautiful day, one which I was planing on taking a short ride in, and I didn't want to push my luck (getting it stuck in the up position), so I immediately lowered it.
How frustrating a thing this is?, but I am happy that at least I have a strategy for the next time it happens.
Thanks again for all your help.

Andy make sure that your battery is in good shape. It takes a ton of power to move the top I believe. Would not be nice for you to be caught out in the rain. Hell I would even carry a tarpaulin in the frunk just in case it lets you down during a thunderstorm and you are not near a petrol station or overpass for cover. Well at least until you know you have the problem under control. My last little problem was the plastic hook cover which I replaced last year was wobbling about. Sometimes the top would stick shut. The windows would not go up to finish the cycle. In fact it was not fully latching at the window. Super glue on the inside of the plastic hook and re-attached solved the problem. Goes up and down smoothly now ( well it does until the next time something happens haha).. I mean what is the use of us having a convertible if it doesn't work when needed. BTW when you leave the car, put the top up using the dash button. Make sure that it completely finishes the locking up procedure including all the side windows. Then when you get back to the car, put the key in the drivers door, turn to the left and hold it there until the top comes fully down and the front side windows go completely up again. That way you don't have to get into a hot interior which takes your breath away during the summer months.
