Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

6 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I had Fister modify a set of 04 3.6L cans for installation on my 99. The install was straight forward and fairly easy once I got past frozen exhaust clamp bolts. Ended up breaking three of the four on the clamping sleaves. My question is in regards to the the 99 stock tips bolting onto the 04 3.6 cans. The stock tips hand noticible lower than before and leave a large gap. Would a set of factory tips of a 04 or any other 3.6L car have shorter pipes and thus have better a better fit? The Pic below is what it looks like with the 3.6L cans installed and using the stock 99 tips.

POST 2Original post

The MK2 (3.6L) tips will not fit as the rear bumper is slightly different on the MK1 than the MK2. You should be able to move the tips around so they fit better than that...

POST 3Original post

After I put Fisters on my dads 03 C4, I had the bolts just snug, but moveable, with my air ratchet on the bolt. With someone sighting the tip, I would move until in postion, then tighten the bolt. I have about a pinky-width between tip and bumper, but you may have more with MKI.

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I have played with the alignment and this is as good as I can get it. Seems to me that the outlet pipe for the tip is a bit longer on the 3.6L can vrs the stock 3.4L can. I might be able to loosen everyting up and **** the muffles up a little but then I risk pushing the inlet pipe that connects to the cat out of alighment.

POST 5Original post

So the old mufflers and tips aligned fine? Engine mounts good?

POST 6 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

In hindsight it would have been a good idea to take a picture of the alignment before I removed the original mufflers. The mounts are original but the car only has 60K on it and nothing came up during the PPI. After about hour of moving things around the above is the best I can get. The simplest solution I think it to remove the tips and have about 3/4" removed from the length.
