I used two clean lint free rags that I saturated with Throttle body cleaner and wrapped/taped the rag on a long screw driver to reach down in there.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

16 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Had some time on my hands so I thought I would knock another project off the list. What else would you expect from the MAF 100k later. Before had very slight rough idiling. 2010-04-01 15.31.18.jpg 2010-04-01 15.31.08.jpg 2010-04-01 15.46.12.jpg after the wipe down she idles smoother now "could be psychological" but I feel better knowing the MAF and sensor are clean. Thirty minute job at most.

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quad..got way ahead of myself. I knocked both out during my time in and thanks for the correction

POST 5Original post

Nice job on cleaning your throttle body...didn't really look like my MAF. Do you notice any benefits after?

POST 6Original post

holy crap.... delete those pics before Orient Express stops by... you might kill him !! so you cleaned that tiny spot... dont stop there cowboy keep cleaning!

POST 7Original post

I hope you keep the rest of the car cleaner than the engine.

POST 8Original post

I'd check the air filter. That's a lot of dust to get by a working filter. Sincerely, Macster.

POST 10 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Did not take pics but the thin wires did have build up in them, I did hose it down with electronics cleaner from Radio Shack and it did the job getting the gunk of the wire's.

POST 11 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 7671849

I feel the car does idle smoother, before it was a little rough but not enough to cause concern but it was there.

POST 12 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 7672022

The filter was in great shape since I recently had serviced the car. I did wipe the filter housing down while it was out and yes, I did wipe away more dust than I thought was visible since the dust/dirt blends with the black housing.

POST 13 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 7672234

I used two clean lint free rags that I saturated with Throttle body cleaner and wrapped/taped the rag on a long screw driver to reach down in there. I should have taken pics of what lies behind the flap, there was just as much on the outside as there was behind the flap.

POST 14Original post

I removed my Plenum this weekend to clean the intakes, it is a real pain in the *** to put back on, as this is only supposed to be removed after removing the intakes... It is possible but man I struggled. There was oil moist all over, I assume because of my engine oil overfill. I had 1 quart of overfill from the previous owner It is good to know that you can put your hand in the intakes and clean them all the way, as the plenum diameter is pretty big.

POST 15Original post

Quotes source post: 7676147

I think Macster also meant the air connection hose / clamps connections. Perhaps one of those air hose connections was not seated correctly allowing an unfiltered stream of air into your MAF & throttle body. If that was the case, then by reinstalling you would refit correctly & resolve.

POST 16Original post

Check your air filter! Clean your engine. Clean the MAF.
