Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

The leak was I suspect the result of the car being used so little.
Leading evidence: 'Use so little' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'result of the car being used' (1 discussions; 0 report identifying it and 1 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Replace 10 year old front tires first' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

CPO warranty covered the cost of replacing the transmission.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Not too long ago I purchased a 2003 911 996 Coupe 6 speed. I purchased it from the original owner. The car had 23.5k miles on it and now has almost 26k miles. So long story short after buying the car I have run into some health issues which is not going to let me enjoy the car till next year.
What is everyones thought on either selling the car and looking for another next year and maybe even a TT at that time or just storing the car for a year. The only issue I have storing it is looking at it for another year and not being able to drive it.
If I did sell it do you think if I got $31,900 for the car that would be a fair price? Like I said it has just under 26k miles. The car has never been tracked actually has the original front tires, brakes and 2nd set of rears is almost new. It is Lapis Blue in color.
I did buy a 4/48 warranty bumper to Bumper warranty from Porsche dealer that I can trade back in or new owner could purchase that. Now that I mention the warranty is also something to consider in storing it or selling it. It would sit a year with no miles and I would lose a year of the warranty not using it.
Open to any comments or suggestions
Sell the car.
Replace the 10 year old front tires first. They are 4 years past their sell be date.
The warranty is a plus for you as the seller and for the new owner.
The warranty is useless if the car sits. Barring an invasion of mice the car will not suffer any wear/tear sitting. It will suffer degradation though. Seals and other things get drier over time and there's no undoing that. Trouble is the warranty would likely expire before these things leaked.
(Bought a low miles (~10K) 03 Turbo in '09. A year or so later with less than 40K miles on the car the 6-speed selector shaft seal started leaking. CPO warranty covered the cost of replacing the transmission. The leak was I suspect the result of the car being used so little. But the leak took years and some additional miles before it appeared. Thankfully the CPO warranty was there. Which is one reason I was not too concerned about buying the low miles car.)
Sell the car and bank the money. Then focus on getting well. Afterwards, as a present to yourself go out and find and buy another car.
Thank You. Once I was typing out the info on the warranty that made me think even harder about letting it go.
I will get it posted up and see what happens. I really beat them up on the price of the warranty so I can just offer that at the cost I would get back if I traded the warranty in.
Sorry to hear about your misfortune and I hate to say this but only you can answer your question.
Some things to consider though...
- How hard is it for you to replace the car?
- How long was your initial search; are you mentally prepared to go through it again?
- Did you find "the car" you really wanted or did you make some notable concessions?
- What is the likelihood that the condition making it impossible for you to drive the car will extend or a longer period of time?
- How badly do you want to have a Porsche to drive when you are able to get behind the wheel again?
- You will find more than a few people who will tell you that the car has already sat too much given its low mileage and that allowing it to sit for a year will only increase the likelihood of gross problems rearing their ugly heads (e.g., leaky seals, IMSB failure, etc.). Is this going to weigh on you?
- How much did you buy the car for? Can you sell it for the same (or possibly more)? If you just bought it recently then why would a "reasonable" sales price be materially different from whatever you paid?
- Are you just planning on putting the car up on blocks for 12 months with a battery tender or do you have someone who can start it every now and again and maybe even take it for a quick spin to get it up to temperature? Is it in a dry garage, under a cover, or out in the open -- and if not in a garage what kind of elements might it be subject to?
Yes, you will lose the value of a year of your warranty but you will also know you will have roughly 3 more years of warranty coverage left in case something does go awry in the years afterward.

It would be in a garaged covered that is climate controlled. If it did sit I do have friends I am sure that would take it for a spin to keep the fluids moving.
Those are all great questions and I agree I am the only one that can really decide what to do. I reached out because these are all great comments for me to take into consideration.
Thanks
I wasn't criticizing you for asking (I would have probably done the same). Sorry if it came off that way. I just meant that I don't think there's actually a right or wrong answer (although some will vehemently disagree and insist that you sell it) and you should weigh all of your options.
I do agree with Macster that some of the issues (like leaky seals) might not rear their ugly heads until after the warranty has expired but I'm also going to venture a guess that he also wouldn't have bought an '03 MY 996 with 23,5k miles on it for fear of those same leaks.
-Eric
I did not find it criticizing at all rather just the opposite. The questions you posed are all things I really need to think about. All good points and Thank You
Why not keep it, have a friend drive it so your Porsche doesn't succumb to maladies brought about by inactivity, keeping the fluids, tires, brakes, engine etc. fresh. When you recover and can drive again you'll be ready to have fun without selling and buying all over again. Whatever your decision, I hope you get better.
"If I did sell it do you think if I got $31,900 for the car that would be a fair price?"
Yes, that would be a great price. If you could get that much for it, maybe you could get a turbo or a 997 when you are set to get a new car, since they will be a year older.
But, my inclination would be to keep it if you really like the car. As others have said, get someone to drive it a bit, on a regular basis. It shouldn't be too hard to find someone willing to do that. Sounds like you have a good safe place to keep it stored. With 3 years left on the warranty after you start driving it again, if problems develop you are covered.
I bet it will be great for your mental health during the recovery to go out and look at it in the garage, and think... "yep, that's MINE... and soon I'll be driving it again!"
