Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

19 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Have been searching for a 996 for a few months. Have had 2 PPI which failed the car. These 2 are both silver and 2003 w/black leather. #1 in Fl. 102k, PSM, heated seats, 18" light wheels, no has CD storage , CD storage under radio, black gauges, recent clutch, 19.5 drive out + temp tag. #2 96k, no PSM, has CD storage, SS exshaust, rear wiper, heated seats, silver accents near shifter and on brake handle, 18" light wheels, white gauges, ship to fl. 4-500 20,250.00 drive out What do you think ? I am tending to go for for #1

POST 2Original post

They sound very similar. I'd let the PPI guide your decision, as well as any other things that might help with your decision like maintenance records or history. Also - The CD storage tray can be added if this is a feature that you really want. I found it to be quite a waste of space when I had one. Most people replace it with an open storage container that works well for a phone, sunglasses, etc. I do like PSM, especially if you drive in the rain frequently.

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks Dennis, The one in Tx, has no maint. history and is more than 1200.00 extra. when you add ship or pick up. PSM would be good to have in Fl. (when it rains it pours) and on the Tail of the Dragon ! (: Where can one get a storage bin like you mentioned ? I would do a PPI on the Fl. car 1st .

POST 4Original post

I concur with PPI on the FL car first. If it meets with your approval, go for it. Suncoast Porsche ( www.suncoastparts.com ) has the storage bin and all sorts of other factory accessory parts. They're based in FL which will keep shipping costs down for you. Good luck with the PPIs and hopeful purchase.

POST 5Original post

Hey Peter...I replaced my CD thing with a storage bin.....let look in my 'Porsche Parts' box. I'll send it to you if you want one.

POST 6Original post

Make sure the car has the features you want, aero kits and full leather are a must (for me anyway.) I'm in Cocoa Fl and have never found rain to be an issue with or without PSM, ice is a whole 'nother ballgame. Are you sure you want silver? Silver 911s are a dime a dozen it seems. For me to go over $20k for an 03' hardtop the car would have to be immaculate with very fresh consumables (tires, waterpump, brakes, clutch)

POST 7 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks guys , I look forward to all input , I am new at this , with the 996's world. just sold my 84 Carrera after 9 years , ans want a replacement with more creature comforts !! Coupe and manual

POST 8 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thank you 4scargo , I don't have the car yet. Will try to get a PPI this week, I am undecided.

POST 9Original post

I think my car is a better choice than either of those.

Good plug. Actually, if I were in the market now for a 996 I'd give serious attention to those listed for sale on Rennlist. Most are enthusiasts who get the picture of Porsche ownership and really care about keeping their Porsches in top condition. History, condition, mileage and who the seller is, all help form an opinion of the Porsche you are buying. Hope your PPIs work out for you.

POST 11Original post

Good thing both have the heated seats, with that cold FL weather! Good luck w/ whichever you buy!

POST 12 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Well as soon as I wanted to schedule a PPI , he would NOT return my calls, or e mail. Its a dealer in N Miami Exotic Cars I think. Has been on E Bay x2 bids no where close to what he wanted to sell the car. Very insisting that I buy the car, then when it came to the PPI , silence.!! Back to looking again.

POST 13Original post

Seriously... check out my car in the link in my sig.

POST 14Original post

Try looking on The Mart on the PCA website if you're a member. There are often some very nice, well-maintained cars for sale there.

POST 15 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I am a PCA member, thanks Dennis. Capt. thats way out of my budget, plus a I think its a bit high for the miles, just a thought.

POST 16Original post

Have you looked at Excellence.com,?They have an interesting for sale site.

POST 17 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I tried but I am waiting for them to send me the password which I forgot, still no news from PCA

POST 18 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I meant to say that PCA has a site also. I have check Exellence out already/ thanks

POST 19 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Aero kit would be nice , but not a must, less than 100k , would be better not scared of high miles , if taken care ,, IMS and RMS upgrades a must , or price reduction. Why are all Porsches silver or black ?? want to stay as close to 20k or less as possible. Perf. upgrades are ok. Maint. records a MUST, at least the most recent. Will fly or ship to get the right 996. preffered 2000-2004, NO black cars.
