BTW, I think the dealership is wrong about disconnecting the battery....others have done this and not had a problem with the light.

The ECU is active with the key in the switch, so a fault is recorded if you disconnect the seat belt with the key in place.

Or, you buy a seat belt repair kit (porsche parts) and add nornal seat-belts to your GT3 seats.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I changed the seats in my car. The air bag light came on. I asked the dealership about this. They told me the light will come on even if you disconnect the battery.
The only way to get it turned off is go to the dealer.
That was my experience.

I installed GT3 seats, did NOT disconnect the battery, and had no problem with the air bag light. The "key" to this is to make sure that the ignition key is NOT in the ignition. The ECU is active with the key in the switch, so a fault is recorded if you disconnect the seat belt with the key in place. Remove it before disconnecting anything and don't reinsert until you're finished and you shouldn't have any problems IF you hook everything back up properly. (Use the stock seat belt receptacle on the new seats so you can re-connect the seatbelt warning circuit). BTW, I think the dealership is wrong about disconnecting the battery....others have done this and not had a problem with the light. It's just that removing the key is a simpler solution.
Loren do you have info with respect to removing powered seats(not heated though). Is there any difference betwen manually operated versus power seats installwise. And airbaglite-how to avoid this? Regards. Mike

Mike, there is no real difference other than a few more wires in the connector. (My stock seats were full power/lumbar/heated). Follow Loren's instructions above. Make sure to re-use the stock seat belt receptacle as per the instructions, see my post about the key, and you shouldn't have any problems with the light.

I didn't have the key in, nor did I put the key into ignition until after all the connectors were connected. My car had the air bag to come on after I cranked for the first time. When I went the dealership, I was told you can't fool the computer.

Mike-do you find the GT3 seats way more comfortable then the stock ones-I heard they are better. Also with respect to buttspace-it's not too narrow is it- my friend checked out some sparcos and it was way tie for him to fit. I don't have a big butt but like some leeway : ). I'm deciding whether seats or rims with dot-r compounds for this year-what you think I should go with first? Regards. Mike

I had no problems with the light whatsoever on my '99 coupe, and I know others who have followed the instructions Loren posted and re: the key and had no problems either. Don't know what else to say about your experience, but apparently one CAN fool the computer at least some of the time.

Mike, I find the seats to be more comfortable than stock, despite their lack of adjustment, even for long drives. The important variable is, will they fit YOU? I'm 6'2" 180 lbs, so I'm slim, narrow in the butt and wide in the shoulders. The seats fit me just perfectly. I don't know that you can even judge by height and weight....it's a matter of how it's distributed, if you know what I mean. You will really need to sit in them to know for sure.
As to what to go for first, the seats or the tires, I think I would choose the seats. They just do such a great job of keeping you in place that they let you concentrate on your driving instead of trying to brace yourself against the cornering forces. It's hard enough to keep your butt planted in the seat on street tires on the track. With stickier tires and more grip it will make things just that much more problematic. Add in the fact that you will save weight and the seats just look great in the car. My $.02. Your mileage may differ.
When you disconect the plug under the seat,
the seat-belt sensor senses the loss of signal and turns on the light. THe only way to get it to go off is to have them reset it after you reinstall the original factory seats. Or, you buy a seat belt repair kit (porsche parts) and add nornal seat-belts to your GT3 seats. This kit comes with connectors that will allow the light to be reset and stay off.
For those that are looking to do the seats they are great!!!! Very good support, and if you have a 5 point then no more using the steering wheel to hang on :-) Do it..you'll love it. I was prob one of the first here in the US to get the GT3 seats (got them before my car showed up)....Had them almost 3 years now....Also have the GT3 rollbar makes the car look great. But don't plan on having a lot of company in the rear seats :-)
