Suggestion · Original poster

I know it is preferable to run the '99's with the Porsche Motorsports' "kit" that adds baffles to the oil pan (anything else?).

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

6 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I am contemplating selling my 986S and "upgrading" to a '99 or '00 996. The car would be primarily for track and autocross. I know it is preferable to run the '99's with the Porsche Motorsports' "kit" that adds baffles to the oil pan (anything else?). I also know that at some point this modification was built into the car. What year did that start? Is installation of the Motorsport kit a DIY project for someone who has access to a lift? Thanks!

POST 2Original post

That I know of it was not built into any of the 996 cars. In fact what Porsche said was that if you had it installed it would void your warranty. I have a 2000 and I was looking at it when they came out with that. So I figure I'll let them pay for a new engine if I blow it. I'll install the kit after my 4 years are up :-)

POST 3Original post

The Porsche Motorsport oil scavenge kit was not included on any 996 of any year. It is strictly a kit sold by PMA and is not a DIY as far as I am told. FWIW, there are plenty 996's running 10/10th at the track without this kit and without any problems.

POST 4Original post

I believe the Powerkit which prior to this year could not be ordered from the factory on US models does included the "oiling kit" parts. I had mine installed by my dealer just to avoid any questions about warranty. Porsche parts, purchased from Porsche, and installed by a Porsche dealer - let them try to not honor the warranty and explain that to a judge! Serious club racers who run in the B or C stock classes in PCA that I know do have this kit installed. For $2K or less installed, it's cheap insurance in my book. Karl

POST 5Original post

Karl, What parts do you ask for? I'm planning the same mod as soon as it's off warranty.

[quote]Originally posted by Karl S: I had mine installed by my dealer just to avoid any questions about warranty. Porsche parts, purchased from Porsche, and installed by a Porsche dealer - let them try to not honor the warranty and explain that to a judge!

Karl, this is considered a racing part sold by Porsche Motorsport and not PCNA. Racing parts are almost never warranted by a car manufacturer. In fact, you don't even get warranty on a Cup car sold by Porsche Motorsport. Believe me, you'll be wasting your time in court on this.
