Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

My first test of the local dealership's service department. I was driving to my in-law's house..luckily almost there..put the clutch in to come to a stop and the engine stalled. It restarted with a bit of trouble. I drove the remaining 1/8 mile to the in-laws and started to smell something burning. I get out of the car and smoke is pouring from the A/C compressor. It, or the compressor clutch has seized. I had it towed by Roadside Assistance on Sunday....dealer called me today to tell me it got there safe and sound. I called them at 4pm to see if they had looked at it yet....they said "no, but first thing in the morning"..no doubt as a result of me not purchasing the car from them....am I being too cynical? Sorry to rant...but as you can probably tell I am not happy. I don't even have the car titled yet...

POST 2Original post

Jims02C2, I'm terribly sorry to hear your plight. Little could be worse than having a brand new car go down. On a broader note, I'm starting to get concerned with the type of quality control (or should I say lack thereof) that Porsche is demonstrating, given the (what seems to be) number of stories that we are hearing on broken trannys, stuck gearshafts, and the like. I thought that Porsche had devoted serious attention to quality control in recent years past, and the 996 was supposedly oodles better than its predecessors on the defect scale. All these stories actually make me pause to think about whether I want to upgrade to my next Carrera. Best of luck getting your car fixed quickly Jim. Regards.

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Dealer called with an update early this morning. The A/C compressor was, indeed, seized. But (and this will be familiar to those with the C4S trans failure) there aren't any parts in the country....they are in Germany...the dealer is trying to get the part ASAP.

POST 4Original post

We feel for you when things like that happen espe with such a new car. Other then AC compressor needing replacement- did they mention anything with respect to the stalling issue? I had a starter issue occured on mine which made a nasty whining noise during startup(last 2-3 seconds) and took about 2 weeks to get a new one(no charge for replacement). Now it's all good. Hope you get your's done quickly!!! Mike

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I am sure the seized A/C compressor caused the stalling. The instant drag on the serpentine belt can cause misfire codes and cause it to stall.

POST 6 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I got a pleasant surprise this afternoon. The dealership called and said my car was finished...It seems they found an A/C compressor at another dealer....Champion..where I purchased the car. I was very impressed...unfortunately I can't pick up the car until Friday.

POST 7Original post

jim, You mean the dealership finished your car early, and You cannot pick it up?......

POST 8 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Yes,I can't pick it up until tomorrow, because I am out of town on business.

POST 9Original post

Wow, can you imagine the response the "dealer" would get, if your car was not ready when "you" wanted?...

POST 10Original post

Thats why the client in always right! Have fun this weekend with your baby

POST 11Original post

actually, The Client is NOT always right! its all part of the new economy!

POST 12Original post

Without the customer paying the MONEY you don't have an ECONOMY!

POST 13Original post

just cause you pay...does not ALWAys make you right!

POST 14Original post

What is the point of badgering Jim02C2 about customers being right or not? Just bored?

POST 16 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Being a field representive for another automotive manufacturer I have to deal with angry service customers on a daily basis. Your point escapes me totally..How would I be inconveinencing the dealer by not picking my car up EXACTLY when it was ready? Maybe taking up one parking spot...I have lots of customers who don't pick their cars up when they are ready, but when it's convenient for them. That's part of providing a service to the customer. I, the customer, am not providing a service to the dealer. If I were leaving it there for 2 weeks while I was on vacation and using them as a storage facility, that would be a different story.

POST 17Original post

I agree, all I'm trying to say is after 9 days and 339 miles it's up to the dealer to step up to the plate and look after the coustomer. On the other hand if I damage my car or just leave it in for a service the dealer tells me what day to bring it in and when to pick it up. You pay a premium price its only right to expect premium service!
