I got to drive the TPC test mule after running it on my dyno a few months ago.

Also heard that TPC superchargers for Boxsters make a funny noise when supercharger engages-is it going to be the same for those who driven the test mule 996?

Oh yeah, and they claim the current test mule is putting out 360 hp at the wheels!

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

The kit is for 99 and up 996's, available this month, intercooled supercharged, using an Eaton charger. It is on page 112 of the latest Excellence magazine. Check it out.
"Is your car ever fast enough? NO!!!"
Spoke to TPC last month they said the supercharger for the 996 will be avail in November
They stated:
"2001 test car produce 340HP to the rear wheel! The stock 996 puts out 255HP at the wheels. The Supercharged 996 feels like a twin turbo"
I was told yesterday that it will be 3 months. EVO is doing the ECU programming for TPC. Cost is estimated at $10k installed. They claim no internal engine mods necessary and that either the C2 or C4 6 speed tranny should be fine (turbo uses C4 tranny). It would be a TT killer in a coupe and a 996 TT runner in a cab (less weight, similar power, less drivetrain power loss than the AWD TT). This should make a much nicer car in my cab than the "reduced power" 3700 lb+ factory TT cab (if they make it). I'd guess with the weight diff between the GT2 (or 996 TT) and the SC'd C2 coupe, the coupe should perform in line with the GT2 should the suspension and brakes be upgraded (as mine in my cab already have been).
Oh yeah, and they claim the current test mule is putting out 360 hp at the wheels!
They also have an ad in this months Panorama "Are you ready for 394 reliable intercooled supercharged horsepower...scheduled for delivery in August".
Then again, this is the website they list which obviously wasn't ready in August:

I got to drive the TPC test mule after running it on my dyno a few months ago. The car was quite fast and had great engine response.
It made very near the same power as a 996 Supercup car.
Overall it was quite impressive. The installation looked fairly simple and unobtrusive.

I think that it would be worth looking at some Boxsters with TPC kits and see how many engines blew... I know of a few from reading the Boxster Board a few years back. I think that anyone that thinks that 100 RELIABLE HP are available for $10K is badly mistaken. Porsche would not be spending tons of R&D $ and sell for $10K a powerkit that makes only 20HP more if you could get 100HP for $10K. Of course, these comments do not hold true for a Turbo car as there, electronics and marketing are king....
What do you guys think?
Just spoke to TPC and they say the boost is 4.5 PSI (not 6). This produces the same dynamic ratio (boost to compression) as the TT. Further, the intercooled version is $10k just for the parts while the non-intercooled version is $10k installed. That said, the intercooled version does 420 hp at the motor w/ 339 lbs torque AT THE WHEELS!
The first run available in November will only be 50 units. They're not taking deposits yet, but have appx 25 people on the list to put up deposits. So, if you're interested, you might want to call [phone removed] and get on the list. European Car and Excellence are both coming out with articles on the beast they've been testing for over a year now.
CA emmissions is said not to be a problem.
Lastly, they said their test mule takes the 996TT. Why wouldn't it - less drag, less weight, less drivetrain power loss with the same power that actually comes on a little earlier even.
PS. The kit should be appx $500 less for those of us who have already installed the center 3rd radiator.
I just got to tell ya, this is dejavu(sp?), about two years ago Huntley Racing(the ad that always had the Tiger striped 944 in it) was promoting a a supercharger for the 968. After I had called them over a 6-12 month period, the product NEVER materialized and I was always on a "list with 25 other guys". In the end, Nothing and I think they even might have gone out of business.
Anyways, good luck!
Dennis
Huntley Racing is still in biz right here in SD.
Unlike Huntley, TPC has the kit in a car RIGHT NOW and has had for over a year now. It has been on a few tracks and the auto media have done stories on it which are due out before November.

Very much so. I would think that you would be lucky to get a dealership to touch it after installing a supercharger.
My car would be out of warranty December of this year so if it does expire you'll mean they won't touch it afterwards or before warranty expires? Ben-what is the difference between intercooled and non-intercooled-related with 3rd radiator? Regards. Mike. Also heard that TPC superchargers for Boxsters make a funny noise when supercharger engages-is it going to be the same for those who driven the test mule 996? Regards. Mike
"I would think that you would be lucky to get a dealership to touch it after installing a supercharger."
Who cares? They will touch it all day long for $95/hour - I guarantee you! As for warranty work, they can only void your warranty as relates modified parts or damages caused by them. What you can do instead if you like (especially if you're in a cab like I am) is sell your 3300 lb (full of fluids) 2001 10k mile cab for $65k (IF YOU'RE LUCKY!) and buy an inferior performing 3700+lb pig factory TT cab for $150k+ after taxes. Then for the $85k difference you can have a warranted inferior performer. I figure there's quite a bit of room for "non-warranty" work in $85k and I'll have a better performer in every respect.
"what is the difference between intercooled and non-intercooled-related with 3rd radiator?"
Don't know. Call em up, they seem ready, willing and able to answer all my questions. They'll also send you an info packet.
"Also heard that TPC superchargers for Boxsters make a funny noise when supercharger engages"
Yep, I've heard that's the case on this one too. Those of you with aftermarket (or factory Sport) exhaust probably wouldn't hear it though. Further, judging from the picture, it looks like they gone to the open cone filter design for the air filter which will make some of it's own noise that will drown out an SC whine.
