Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

5 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I have a 2000 w/ 39,5xx miles on it. the other day i started the car, and the oil pressure shot right to the top and stayed there. i think i noticed two small plumes of smoke at the first stop light i was at, but can't be sure--there was a horrific old pontiac behind me. the pressure stayed pegged at the top until I really got on the throttle and it would drop to around 3-4 bar. i stopped my car, left it parked for an hour, upon restarting it the pressure was down at 1..stayed there. would come up a bit but top at 3. oil level in the car is fine...temp never varies at all. looking for a reason that might be causing this.. any advice would be helpful thanks in advance

POST 2Original post

Sounds like an oil pressure sensor on the way out. Pretty common and an easy DIY (there are a handful of threads on it if you do a search).

POST 3Original post

Oil pressure sensor, very common issue. As Capt. said, search for it and there are a bunch of articles about it and multiple writeups on how to replace it. DS

POST 4Original post

Factory oil pressure sensors are junk. It's not uncommon to have a new one start to go bad after 1 years time. Being pegged at 5 is one thing, when the needle goes to 0, that is when you might need to check your shorts...
