Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi there and good day to all!!! I have a question with regards to purchasing a used car from a private seller. I live in California and have never bought a used car so what is involved with both parties(buyer/seller) to complete a purchase. For the longest time I always wanted to do a project car and the one I wanted to do was the 83-84 1st gen GTI and make it a dedicated track car(stripped down to the bone and built up hopefully with a 1.8 turbo engine if its feasible-emailed New Dimensions on possibility) Thanks for any info. Regards. Mike

POST 2Original post

It's very simple. The seller brings the title and proof of smog. The buyer brings certified funds. The seller signs over the title to the buyer upon payment with certified funds. The buyer takes the title to local DMV (or AAA if you are a member) and registers the car by paying applicable fees/sales tax. The DMV give you a current registration in your name right there on the spot. Within a few weeks, the DMV mails you the newly registered title (pink slip) in your name. This is, of course, after you've done your due diligence of inspecting the car, making sure it has a clean title, etc. etc.

This is a source reference. Confirm exact model applicability in the original material.
