Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

9 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

 • Rennlist: 1 discussions

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I wonder how much weight can be realistically taken off the 996. Maybe at some point I want to make it a track car once it gets old enough. I already lost 30 lbs so can't lose anymore : ). Any thoughts? Is like 600 lbs realistic? Regards. Mike

POST 2Original post

[quote]Originally posted by 996FLT6: ...Is like 600 lbs realistic? Regards. Mike

Sure, but it'll cost you... Here's a list that I've cathered (and hopefully will bit by bit do on my 993, at least all those not so serious items (I'd like to keep it so that I can put it back to stock in realistic way).  Remove rear seats  Remove rear side panels  Remove spare tire  Remove carpets  Remove all sound proofing.  Remove stereo & speakers  Remove under dash.  Remove engine tray  Remove Engine sompartment insulation  Lightweight exhaust.  Lightweight seats.  Lightweight interior door panels for RS style lightweight panels  Lightweight alloy wheels (BBS, Kinesis etc.)  Lightweight (Fiberglass, aluminum or carbon fiber) front lid  Lightweight Doors  Lightweight engine lid with integral spoiler More serious items:  Remove all inside lining  Remove all carpet & mats  Remove sunroof & motor.  Remove rear wiper and motor  Remove electric windows  Remove central locking  Remove A/C system including condenser and fan assembly  Remove heating system including heat exchangers, hoses etc.  Lightweight side and rear glass and replace with lightweight version.  Lightweight fenders/wings and bumper bars with Kevlar version.

POST 3Original post

The easiest way to drop 600 lbs from a 996 is to take out the motor. It just won't go to fast. Maybe 10 mph pushing it downhill

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Good one Ed : ). Thanks Finn for the list. Need to check after each one over time : ). If it comes down to just a track car-plan to remove the power seats and just put one GT3 seat in and with respect to windows since it's required to keep windows open just plan to remove both driver/passenger windows and electronics altogether. I have a sunroof so at some point remove that and put an airvent because going to take out A/C. Radio will all go since I hardly ever listen. Darn when that day comes I'm actually salivating how good/fast on the track it's going to be : ). Regards. Mike

POST 6Original post

996FLT6, Have fun with the project! My plan is to follow the list one, but who know after 20 years from now I've completed the both lists!

POST 7Original post

So how much is the total weight loss if you remove everything on the list and remove the engine, too?

POST 8Original post

Strip away... don't forget the engine mods... Here are some Supercup interior shots:
