Read evidence and context
Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I just had the Fabspeed headers, exhaust and airbox installed last week.

With respect to cams-whats the benefit with changing cams and would you need to reprogram ecu for the additional cams?

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I'm still getting rid of that nasty smell from the new exhaust.
Thinking of getting the following modifications done:
996 Fabspeed Maxflo Muffler and headers
OBD II DME chip
PowerFlow air intake
BMC air filter
Does anyone have a similar setup? And if you do is there a significant performance increase?
I have Fabspeeds purely for the improved sound and lighter weight..nothing else.
What hp/tq gains to you expect to achieve with your suggested mods?

I just had the Fabspeed headers, exhaust and airbox installed last week. The sound is incredible and it's not really broken in yet either. I'm still getting rid of that nasty smell from the new exhaust. I don't really feel a significant performance boost yet. Hopefully it'll come as the computer relearns things. I'm sure you'll enjoy the exhaust alot!
Short of better exhaust sound, don't believe the hype. Even having a factory power kit installed-that includes cylinder heads, cam,DME,etc, etc you'd be lucky to see a 10% increase. Some of the items on the market may actually hurt your factory performance. Everybody likes to play and spend money on their cars but if easy power was available why wouldn't you already have it. Look at the conversions similar to Ruf,its not as simple as putting on two feet of tubing and a K&N airfilter. With the resale as bad as it is with mint stock 996's you certaintly won't get the money back when you are tired of the car.
FROM WHAT WE HAVE SEEN, 99 TO 01 996 CARS NEED CAM HELP TO REALLY MAKE IT WORTH WHILE WITHOUT GOING TO A REAL RADICAL CONVERSION.
LAST WEEK FINISHED HP UPGRADE ON 01 996. ECU, CAMS, HEADERS, SPORT CATS, MUFFLER.
285 HP TO REAR WHEELS, ..... WHERE IT COUNTS !!
IF WARRANTY STILL NEEDED, YOU NEED EXTRA ECU.
WE CAN SUPPLY YOU WITH EXTRA ECU AND HP UPGRADE IF YOU LIKE, AND SEND IT TO YOUR SHOP.

SICAONE. WE REPLACED THE CAMSHAFTS WITH HIGHER LIFT ONES. RE-PROGRAMMED THE ECU, CHANGED COMPLETE EXHAUST SYSTEM, AND DYNO TUNED.
EVERYTHING WAS DONE HERE AT OUR FVD FACILITY IN FLORIDA.

With respect to cams-whats the benefit with changing cams and would you need to reprogram ecu for the additional cams? How much would that run(cost plus approx installation)?Regards. Mike
AS I MENTIONED EARLIER, ECU HAS TO BE RE-PROGRAMMED !! ALSO IMPORTANT TO CHANGE HEADERS AND CATS. MUFFLERS ARE OPTIONAL. REMEMBER , NORMALLY ASPERATED CARS STILL NEED BACK PRESSURE!!
BENEFITS OF CAMS WE KNOW KEEPS THE POWER BAND CONSISTANT THROUGH ALL GEARS STRAIGHT TO REDLINE OF 7,600 RPMS. NO POWER DROP OFF !!
ECU RE-PROGRAM = $ 1,500.00
SPORT CAM SET = $ 1,950.00
HEADERS & CATS = $ 2,370.00
LABOR & DYNO = $ 1,450.00
AN AFFORDABLE AND RELIABLE UPGRADE !!

10% hp gain for only $260 per hp. But maybe no more expensive than gaining performance by removing weight. Another reminder; speed costs, -how fast do you want to go?
