I run 265s on my rear wheels in the winter, but I drop down to a 10" wheel, per Porsche recommendations.

I really like those wheels on the style that you're going for on your car, looks very clean IMO, and overall the car looks very clean and definitely stands out from the crowd / makes the car look much newer.

I'm going to pop them off and sand/ polish for an hour and see if it has any big changes, otherwise I will consider getting them replaced with aftermarket.

Just got my car back with new wheels...
Roderick RW-5 19x11 and 19x8.5
Hankook V12...285-30, and 235-30
Had to roll the fender lip to get them to fit, but there is no rubbing, and the car handles better than ever. Also, the shocks are set so the car sits level, it is on a slight hill in the photos....
Just thought I'd post and get some opinions...
At first, I wasn't 100% on the look, but the more I see it the more I am liking it...
Thanks,

Thanks, I wanted to go with the Stealth Bomber look!.... lol
I looked at like 100 wheels, and these were the most different looking Porsche wheel I had seen... From the side the rear wheel curves all the way into the hub...
here is some rear shots 100plus... The 997 wing covers the tail lights a bit on the 996, but if you get the Led's is kind of matches the lines I think...
[/IMG]
Heres another u can see the old wheels here...
[/IMG]
Golfman, I still have the old wheels... same ones you have, I'm sending them out to get redone. I could switch back, but the way the car drives with the new wheels is awesome... They were specifically designed for Porsche and only made for this car with 2 off-sets for the NB, and Wide...
But, I respect your opinion... They are definitely different and that's what I like about them...
Since you asked for opinions, I like your previous wheels much better. I'm also not a fan of blacked-out windows. Seems kind of ghetto to me, like something you would see on a Honda.
I love the color, the aero kit, tail lights, and your original wheels.
personally like the older ones better. i hate elastic band tires, you need at least a 295-305 on a 19 x 11 to look good.
but that said as long as you like them that is all that matters. The rest of the car is really nice.
Getee....I think was originally midnight blue, but I had the car resprayed after the new parts were all on and had settled and fit correctly... The new color is very similar, but it Has Mother of Pearl mixed in and it really is a cool color from almost black to really blue-ish green depending on the light... Also has super glossy clear coat so it looks wet all the time. and is good against hood chips...
You put 285s on 11" rims? Don't take any hard corners or you are going to separate the tires from the rims.
I wouldnt have rolled fenders for 285s. 315s maybe if I was into that kind of thing.
Hope it works out for you.
SSST,
I had 285's on my Victor wheels for a while also 11" ... And I drive really hard esp cornering! Never had an issue except the rubbing and fear of shredding a tire at speed... So we rolled the fender a bit and now the tire clears even on the hardest of hits... I wish it were possible to put even 295's but they would rub all the time and burn the fenders... the car wouldn't even roll with 315s...
Car looks very good! But the wheels.. dont like them.
The wheels dont really fit with the elegance and overall look of a 911. Few wheels do in my opinion (except orginal porsche-brand wheels).
But if you like them and they handle good, go for it!
Car looks great and the wheel look ok to me. To each their own man.
But now for the window tinting. Anybody that doesn't like window tinting needs to realize some places have scorching sun with 365 days of extreme UV like Hawaii and as his car having Florida plates. Not that 2 skin cancer removals motivate me to say if you don't like window tinting just keep cruising without some extra protection while you age. Even airline pilot windows these days being clear have UV blocking since it was found all the thinner air cruising in the UV was giving pilots skin cancer. Just cut yourself as many breaks as you can get because the first diagnosis really sucks wondering how things are going to go. Then there is the second spot.......fricking use window tinting especially with UV blocking. It gives the interior a major break also.
Nice color and looking car. I hope it runs great.
Thanks for the Window Tint Explanation... PAC... In Tampa and Miami, where I live and go to... You can walk right into Reeves Dealership and see new turbos, and enzo's all tinted out sitting in the showroom...
In Miami @ Prestige Imports I don't think they even have cars that aren't tinted... And they don't sell Hondas... lol The dash and leather will crack and warp in 3 years down there, not to mention your arms... : ) EVEN the 5-0 rolls around blacked out...
But thanks for all the feedback, this turned into a cool thread with lots of different opinions all over the country... As for the front wheel drive comment... These wheels are the least front wheel drive looking rims I've ever seen, In person... You cant tell from the photo how 3-D these wheels look in person... The rear goes from the lip, all the way back to the hub with no spacer, about 7" in like a vortex... It's pretty awesome looking in person... And the car only has almost 40k on the clock, and It sounds and drives just like it looks, Fabspeed, intake, Chip, and FVD HAck... Its lowered with Ohlins and handles really well....
But today for Easter I was in the city driving around, and I never got so many bad-***'s, and thumbs up's in my life with this car... It's amazing how wheels can change the look of a car... I will say that In person they are very impressively designed wheels, and definitly updated the age of the car from the previous wheels which were a little beat compared to the rest of the car... And they needed 15mm and 10mm spacers to look right on the car, and I never liked the way it drove with them...
That's All I got... Happy Motoring...
Can you explain please? I have 265s on my 11" rims and you have me very nervous. The Porsche recommended size for winter tires on 11" rims is 265, which I had. When I changed back to summer tires, I had to replace the summer rears. For summer tires, Porsche recommends 285s on the 11J x18 RO63 rims but I couldn't find 285s that matched the brand and type of my fronts, so I went with 265s for summer as well. Is this dangerous?
Not sure about the Porsche recommentations on your car. Sidewall height affects this, so 285's on 18*11 may be fine. I didn't check.
10.5" is the max recommended rim width for 19" 285s according to the manufacturers spec. On wider rims, the lip holding the tire to the rim is pushed out wider than it was designed for. Simple physics says there would be less friction holding the tire to the rim in this situation. Side wall stability might also be affected. I wouldn't be surprised if the contact patch was distorted as well.
Regardless, I would not use a tire outside it's design limits in a high performance situation. Admittedly I have no personal experience putting an improperly sized tire on a rim, so I may be wrong.
It is certainly a double-take look. I really like the color of the car and the tint on the windows really picks it up and I am sure it took 1/2 second off your 0-60. The wheels, hmmmm not my flavor in the pix. But you felt the same way at first.
It's doesn't matter what people think or say. Just let them know you have Ohlins.
Although it may not be 100% "my" style, I applaud you for going left when the whole herd goes right.
Do you have any pics of the front of your car?
The Porsche sport wheels are 10 x 18, and 10 x 7.5.... They are completely straight, and are currently being refurbished, I was going to keep them in case I wanted to switch back, but I'm definitely selling them now...
I will post some close up pics when I get them back and figure out a fair price...
It looks like you had the Sport Design, which I had on my 928 S4 (in picture). I loved those wheels on my 928 and had them chromed and painted and was blown away with all the compliments
You have two outstanding sets of wheels

Alpine, here is a pic of the front... The car is dirty in the pic and those are just dirty hand smudges on the front of the hood and vent... And I got the 3rd Radiator, and this front has internals that ram the air right into the radiators, and it seems to run cooler with this, but who knows...?
You also have to saw-off the bumper bar, and a few other things to fit it right
But It's very strong and the finish looks amazing... no waves or pits like in fiberglass...
Also, I finally got the chrome shield, not in pics...

I was going to keep them, but Now I'm gonna sell them....
They are still at the shop, They do refurbish and chrome work... But now I think I might just get them back and sell them as-is... They are still in very good condition... But you can have them powdrecoated metallic silver with a high polish on the lip and polished bolts for 800... They come out pretty awesome...
I'd Prob sell the wheels as is, No Rubber for about $1,000...
I was going to refurb them and throw them on ebay but let me know...
Love the front pic of your Porsche, not loving the new wheels, especially over the ones that you are selling. But, if you're happy, then that's really all that matters.
There have been a growing number of people that actually buy these cars lately for looks as a priority with little to no priority given on performance, safety, sensibility, etc.
Old farts beware, the new generation is coming and will completely flip the Porsche tuning world upside down.
Btw, I probably belong in the old fart camp too but I do believe in individuality in car customizing whether I deem it to be good or bad. Sort of like the free speech constitution for cars.
Carbon Fiber this, LED's that, Matte this, Clear light that, Wrap this, Kevlar that, Widest wheels this, Black rims that, Tint lights this, biggest tires that, Plasti-dip this.....etc...blah, blah,blah...
My $,03
Interesting statement..From the looks of your avatar you have a little bit of young fart in you though i.e. the gold rims...
Not bagging on you just saying...
I am one of those who love to hold on to the stock look for the most part, but I like to upgrade things that you may not be able to visually see. I am very conservative when it comes to the look of my cars. I think simple and clean. Too many visual mods and you take away the look of the car. To each their own though..just not for me..
Thanks for understanding... And when I bought this car stock a few years back in mint condition from Arizona, no one even really noticed me driving down the road.... Now that I customized my car to my liking, I get thumbs up, nice car, And people are always taking pictures of this car....and the other day at Wawa I got... "That is the coolest Porsche I have ever seen..." from an old dude in a white 2010 GTS... So while I love stock, and love Porsche... What I really want is a 2012 Techart GTstreet.... Except they are like $200,000 and I can't afford that... So I work with what I got... : ) And I like the gold wheels on your car...
+1
I hate to be hating bro but I am with this guy^
Especially those wheels, they just don't fit Porsche elegance... they get the
boy
toy tag. The old wheels do look MUCH BETTER.
Yup 25, 2nd Porsche 996 and part of the old farts I guess lol. Op I like that your daring enough to mod and change the game up color I think the car is sick besides the rims. I'd stick some Rotiform concave TMP's on there ;-) cheers!
I guess you never seen motorsports throughout the 80's, 90's, 00's and I'm guessing you don't realize that BBS produces gold wheels?
This is definitely not what I consider a fad but racing livery to celebrate the spirits of GT racing. Although there have been people of late that do not understand the racing connection or origins and do it as a fad.
Okay, I am not crazy about the wheels either, i'd rather the rims were accentuated rather than the spokes, BTW I have some two and a half inch high porsche shield decals. how about i stick them on the front fenders a la Ferrari ? whats everyone think? Cool or NBG ?
I like the gold rims on your car. I think that the look is much more subtle than the OP's look. I do realize who BBS is and that they do produce gold rims. Like I said I like the wheels on your car. I personally wouldn't put them on mine just because that is not the look I want, but like I said in my earlier post to each their own!
You probably have done it, but you might get someone to make some videos of your car under different lighting conditions, at different speeds. It might affect how you feel about your choices. (Might make you like them even more.)
I think a lot of the decorative "tuning" started with mandated pollution controls on engines. When you couldn't really do much (legally) to alter the performance of a car, what was left to customize? It was only then we started to see extensive body kits, wilder wheels, etc. Also a different generation...e.g., one that embraces drifting more than road racing....raised by, "If you've got it, flaunt it" parents. So, things change. Not much startling about that.
Thanks and that's what makes this hobby exciting to see everyone's own tastes coming out and being expressed in their rides.
I think if we all did the exact same mods or looks, we would've already been assimilated into the Borg.
I really like those wheels on the style that you're going for on your car, looks very clean IMO, and overall the car looks very clean and definitely stands out from the crowd / makes the car look much newer.
Also a fan of the gold BBS on the black car.
I have the 18" sport designs on my midnight blue c2 and I'm very happy with it after getting the rims repaired and paint detailed by autospatlc in the bay area. I have noticed a lot of blue 996s that haven't aged well lately.
What taillights do you have on there OP? Mine have gotten cloudy and a quick stop at the wash using meguiars kit helped, but still looks very aged. I'm going to pop them off and sand/ polish for an hour and see if it has any big changes, otherwise I will consider getting them replaced with aftermarket.
I like that everybody posts their honest opinion here. Rather than all yes-men.
I personally love the Rodericks and was thinking of getting those exact ones for my car. That plan is on hold now.
Young, old, whatever. Everybody is different.
I think your car looks awesome in all facets!
To Date: I've had about 100 "Coolest Wheels I've ever seen" Also, I Love them myself, and wouldn't knock yours even though they are not my style! To say worst wheels ever is a bit mean especially since my track times went down almost 2 seconds... Function over form!!!!!!! I love all Porsche's Regardless of the owners style... The guy up the street from me has a 944 turbo on 20's, and its sick! to each his own!!!!
+2 with vgm911 very clean car but this sort of stuff is not in line with a high end euro car= more vw lower rent audi, and yes I know no one gives a rats *** what I think lol.
Man, thats a beautiful car & with the right set of wheels there would be no end to how Awesome it would look! But, to me those are definitely not the ones (those actually take away from the car as you can't help but see them jump out at you). Like everybody says though its YOUR car & what you LIKE! I think alot of it has to do with age of who likes & dis-likes (most of the purists & old fluddy duddies don't like it)
and the younger crowd likes them! jmo
Using a heat gun is the trick to prevent paint chipping when rolling fenders. I've done a few and never had chipping paint using this method(lucky I guess).
No offense intended...but...who gives a **** what other people think?
I customize my cars to the way I like them...and most of that work never shows.
Wawa? Is that a high end auto salon? Local Porsche club?
Less is more....IMHO....I guess to each its own. I did lots to my 996 but not too loud and try to keep it as factory looking as possible. Like the Aero kit.
hey there.. im killing myself reading all the posts from the purest who think everybody who owns a porsche should have some oe wheels off another model, and anyone that goes against it is insane!! very narrow minded and boring if you ask me, a friend of mine put cayanne turbo 20in wheels on his 996 bet no one would even be game enough to try that because its unheard of and porsche wouldnt recommend that.. look outside the square ppl instead of being a bunch of sheep following each other!! i want these wheels on my 986 and will be squeezing the 19x11s on the rear!! bet all the purist are cringing again!!! no one looks at a porsche with standard oe wheels and says wow that looks different do they now...
