Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

- RMS/IMS replaced: I was told by the tech that the new seals are much better and that they have seen a dramatic decrease of incidents since Porsche revised the design.

I also had the clutch and flywheel replaced while they were in there.

Yesterday, I finally pulled the trigger on a local used base C2 996 (2003, 43k miles).

Getting the Porsche shop to check the car is the best.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.
26 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

First, let me thank all members on this forum. I have been looking for a 911 for a few months, and this site has been a great source of insights.
I come from the BMW world and got into DE last year. I realized that I needed something a bit more performance oriented for the track (will keep my beloved BMW for commuting). It was between a used M3 and a 911. After lots of dicusssions, tests, and research, I decided give Porsche a try.
Yesterday, I finally pulled the trigger on a local used base C2 996 (2003, 43k miles). I had a PPI by Porsche and it needs some repairs. It goes to the P dealership next week to bring it back to perfection.
I know this thread is worthless without pics
, so here it is. Wish all of you a wonderful 2010.

Primarily RMS (!) and oil leaks. + Other minor stuff like heated seat issue. I had all the repairs priced by Porsche and got the main ones factored into the seller's price. (one of my DE instructors is a service advisor at the P dealership). Hopefully it will be like new with IMS and RMS replaced after they do their magic.

Cool, I don't know if I should say congratulations, we had a thread on that a few weeks ago. Seriously, good buy, you will really like this car, especially when you start tracking it.
You really know how to pick xmas presents. Beautiful car you got.
Getting the Porsche shop to check the car is the best. For some reason I think they wouldn't want to miss anything
Last week when I walked to the other side of my car to unlock with my key I was like uh uh duh.
Download the owners manual if it didn't come with one.
You can run the windows up and down with the key in the door by holding in unlock for down and lock for up. The air seal on my car is tight so it's nice to lower the window a little before shutting the door.
If you have cell phone laws the Pioneer DEH-P7100BT is excellent noise cancelling and will store your numbers. It does a bluetooth connection to your phone. The CD player/radio does not need to be on to receive calls. It cuts the music and changes to the call. You can even voice dial with the radio and it's remote positioned mikes. Other features are appealling except for the screen changing while on and getting brighter which I don't like at night. There's even a higher end one with DVD. I didn't have the Bose sound system and don't know if there's a compatability problem existing with your car. There is a ohms of the speakers deal that has to be worked around in some cars.
May I suggest ZZ Top Viva Las Vegas while cruising
Keep the rubber on the road.
Well done, I'm interested to see how you compare the BMW to the Porsche. Good pics too, love the black! And now, a first for ME...I get to be the first to encourage you to get a pumpkinectomy!
Congrats and Welcome to Rennlist!
Man, the latest batch of Newbies are posting pics right away. I know I should be happy about that.... but damn.... I sure miss yelling at them! !@#$%^& Newbies!
Ahhhh, I feel better now!
Sweet! Congratulations.
I was just sitting in my 'new' 02 out in the garage, figuring out the stereo and cd changer... and grinning like an idiot. Got it a week ago with 40k. It just came back from the shop with the RMS leak fixed. Same story. I also had the clutch and flywheel replaced while they were in there. 1300 more in parts but worth the money. I did not realize how far gone the old clutch was until I drove the new one. Night and day.
One more thing: clear corners and bumperplugs, now.
Me? I'm shopping for the best source on aluminum trim rings for the gauges.
Thanks to all for the kind words.
Probably. Been there with BMWCCA. First track will likely be at Summit Point with BMWCCA in April. I also hope to make it to Watkins Glen this year. Will Join PCA soon.
By the way, car is dark blue. Hard to see on the pics. I took my mom for a ride tonight and she liked it. Still on the todo list after the repairs: a car cover and 2 car seats (our car seats are too wide. Darn! Kids still got a ride around the block without them - My 3 year old daughter was begging for a ride in daddy's new car, she loves it as well as the "MW").

Welcome. Very nice car! I love the base version of every 911. To me, they're second only to the GT2 and 3 as pure, unfiltered driver's cars. Here's a crappy cell phone pic of your interior with deviating mats in black, instrument trim rings and a short shift kit/Exclusive shift ****. Hope you have your credit card ready. These guys won't be as easy on you as I am...
What a GREAT Xmas Gift!!
Good for you!!
Mine is sleeping for the winter but everytime i walk past her in the garage, i get so excited for spring that it is ridiculous how excited a car can get you!!
All the best
Pete
Quick update. Car is back from the P Dealer after 2 weeks of "Post Purchase Maintenance" (PPM)
.
Looks and runs like great. I am posting this for the record in case someone runs into the same issues. I was glad to return the Cayenne loaner. It really did not grow on me.
Main repairs:
- RMS/IMS replaced: I was told by the tech that the new seals are much better and that they have seen a dramatic decrease of incidents since Porsche revised the design. Hope this is true. They showed me where the seals are and how to spot early leaks.
- Oil leak: appears to be nothing. Perhaps just oil aggregation over time. They cleaned up and could not reproduce. Wait and see
- Front squeaking: Car was squeaking a little bit on the front right when braking and over bumps. They thought originally the sway bar needed lubrication. Turns out, it did not work. They had to install microphones on the suspension and drive the car to identify the culprit: Front control arms. Had to be replaced + new alignment... ($$$
)
- Idler pulley making noise: replaced.
- Bunch of other stuff done: 45k, airbag maintenance, brake fluid flush (had to extract and clean bleeders), new wipers, etc.
Car should now be up to date for maintenance, ready for DE!
Added bonus: I was able to install the 2 new car child seats (Recaro Vivo High Back Booster and Combi Dakota Booster - ~ $100 from babycatalog.com). I can confirm they fit perfectly (I'll post pics soon). Thanks to rennlist members for these suggestions. I went for a short ride with the kids tonight and they loved it. That pays for all the trouble.

Congrats...very nice choice...you will love every minute of it.
As I'm sure you've already figured out, these cars drive like no other car. It's a feeling that just can't be reproduced.
Now, go find a good Indy mechanic in your area so you don't pay so much for repairs. They don't call it the "Stealership" for nothing.
