Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

6 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I'm moving the AC to drop the engine. The rear notorious bolt appears to be stripped? I removed the front two which were easy. The compressor now moves as if the rear bolt is loose. The bolt feels like it is not completely seated flush. I was hoping someone left it loose.......No such luck. It does not appear to turn. I tried various iterations of extension socket from between the manifold branches but it is not moving. I'm now deciding between just draining the AC system with a vacuum kit and tank or removing the intake manifold on the passenger side for better access. What would be best access for this? Maybe drop the motor to the crossmember which is still in place to have more space? Thanks

POST 2Original post

Recently removed mine but didn't have this problem. Your description does not sound like a stripped bolt, but one that has been cross threaded and seized in place. Try shimming bottom of compressor to put tension on bolt head, then removing the third bolt.

POST 3Original post

Turn the bolt with more force and it will either unscrew or break off. Either way you can drill out the remnants and put in a helicoil after the engine is removed.

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks, I did get it to move a little with a longer bar. I think it will just need the threads fixed once it's out of the car.

POST 5Original post

Disconnect the ac lines Remove the engine. Reach in from the gearbox side and access the difficult bolt. May need to remove the heat exchanger.

POST 6 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Finally got the third bolt out. Ill check the threads once the engine is out. Thanks for the suggestions.
