Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.
Discussions that suspect a cause
1
0 original-poster resolution reports. Counts can overlap; they are not unique people or a success rate.
0 discussions have direct query context; 0 report a fix in that context. Other evidence may inherit the discussion’s subject.
Suspected cause
Another break-in period is probably a small price to pay for what hopefully will be many miles of good driving.
Leading evidence: 'small price' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'small price' (1 discussions; 0 report identifying it and 1 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Replace (even worse rebuilding) an engine' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Frankly I am not very comfortable with the idea of replacing (even worse rebuilding) an engine on such a new and special car
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Welcome to the Forum, Max...glad you got your problem solved.
Hello there!
I've been lurking for a while and decided to post today because I encountered the first problem and probably some of you can help...
Vehicle
: 2002 Targa
Miles
: 3500ish
Problem
: quoting service advisor... "The intermediate shaft let go"
Solution
: replacing or rebuilding engine.
The car is currently at Champion Porsche.
Has this happened to anybody here? Any thoughts on how could this happen?
Frankly I am not very comfortable with the idea of replacing (even worse rebuilding) an engine on such a new and special car
Any comments will be appreciated

Hello Max,
Welcome !
I dont know about the intermediate shaft, but Champion Porsche is the largest porsche dealer in the world and their customer service is suppose to be next to none. I've heard alot of good things about them.
Alex
Max,
You might be one of the first to get a re-build on site. It is my understanding that dealers are going to begin doing this level of work now on the 996 model. In the past it has beeen only exchange, ie. new (factory rebuild) motor or tranny. Good luck, if it were me I would be getting a new car.
Best regards,
Scott
I personally would not go with a rebuilt engine. A buddy of mine had a new Audi with a bad tranny that they rebuilt twice and then had to finally go with a new one. His car was in the dealer for 28 straight days. Take note of the lemon laws just in case you get any more problems from this new car.
Update!
Well, picked up the car July 15th... pretty fast if you ask me
Everything seems fine so far, i'm just not very happy with the fact that it needs to be broken in... AGAIN
The guys at Champion took care of it like pros that they are.
I got a brand new engine BTW

Max, WELCOME!
A couple of questions, if I may:
1. How long did you have your car at Champion, Pompano for repair?
2. What kind of loaner, if any, did they provide free of charge?
Best of luck with your Porsche.
Thanks for the warm welcome!
Karl,
-The car was towed (flatbed) July 9
-At Champion July 10 (Wednesday)
-Porsche Authorized a new engine replacement (not rebuild) Friday July 12
The car was picked-up Monday or Tuesday (i don't recall)
The was SUPER fast if you ask me
LastV8.....
It's a custom enclosure made of fiberglass. I'm lucky enough to have a 1st. class installer in my area !!! e-mail me if you wish to have more info.

Oops Karl, forgot about the second question...
Champion gave me an Infinity SUV through Enterprise rent a car(QX4?) pretty low miles. I wish Porsche would allocate some of their own vehicles for this kind of situation (like BMW/Lexus) but oh well
Hues1,
That is a very nice instalation!
